Excellent way to get parts!
My washing machine broke down and I was prepared for it to be out of service for weeks. I went online found Parts Select. The picture breakdown of my machine made it so easy for me to pick my parts! I ordered and had them within a week I think. I'm super impressed, it took so much stress out of dealing with this situation. Thanks!

Easy repair did it all by myself
This was an awesome easy job as a woman I didn't think I could do it but I did super easy and doing it myself saved me 200.00 dollars. Before you throw your washer in the dump, do yourself a favor and simply repair this piece. My machine is working like new. So happy I was able to find the parts I needed. Thank you PartSelect

One Part was Missing from the New Parts Package
The repair was easy but the package with the new parts we ordered only contained three dog leg not the four that we ordered. We were forced to use the best of the four from before the repair to complete the repair.

Upper portion of agitator, no longer pushing clothing down.
The instructions came with the repair kit, it was fairly simple and straight foward.
One bolt held the entire agitator unit in the washer, as well as held the upper and lower halves together. Once that nut was removed the two halves seperated and the plastic clutch pieces could easily be replaced wtih the new onces in the repair kit.
Very easy do-it-yourself repair! Took about 20 minutes because I was being cautious. Next time I could do it in 5 minutes.

Would not agita.
It was a blessing that I ordered the kit, because I thought it only needed the rubber seal and the four dogs. But because the seal and dogs cost less than the shipping I decided to order the kit and its good I did because the nochage on the basket sleeve was broke off. The blessing is that the sleeve was in the kit, sp it took 5 sec to slip it on along with the rest of the kit, and after about 15 min my wife was back to work. Thanks for saving me time and money without this web site I would have bought another brand new washer, thanks. Lennis from NC.

Clothes mover stopped working. Found, after disassembly, that cam dogs were broken into many pieces.
I first pulled the softener dispenser cap off, then re-moved the inner cap/seal by twisting and pulling (it was a little stubborn, but alternating my grip from side to side while pulling was helpful). Using a 7/16" socket with an extension to reach down inside the mover, I then loosened the agitator mounting bolt. Note the amount of torque needed to "break " the bolt from the threads holding it as you don't want to overtighten it when you replace it. It doesn't require much effort to tighten it., depend-ing on the size of your wrench. I then lifted the agitator up and off its shaft by slipping my fingers under it on opposite sides of its base. Then, I lifted the mover or auger off the agitator and removed the thrust washer, cam and cam dogs. Don't worry; the illustrated instructions which are included with the new parts are quite clear and understandable. Then, I placed the new thrust washer and cam and dogs (a separate instruction sheet shows you how to assemble the cam, dogs and bearing; not difficult). Here's the only complaint I have about all this: the instructions advise you to apply agitator grease to the top surface of the thrust washer, but the grease isn't included in the kit. I used standard plumber's silicone grease which I had on hand. Hopefully, that won't be a problem. There's a part # for the grease shown on the illustration (#350849).
It would be helpful if this information were given when ordering these replacement parts. You then put the auger and cam on the agitator and place the assembly back on the shaft in the wash tub and replace the mounting bolt and tighten it. Remember to not overtighten it. Then you place the inner cap/seal back inside the mover after lubricating the seal with plumber's grease or liquid soap and replace the dispenser cap. The instructions remind you that the mover is to turn only clockwise and, if that's what you have, you are finished. As a precaution, I checked the "play" (and there is some in it) in the mover/auger after assembly then checked it again after the first couple of loads we washed. It seems to be fine.
Please don't let the length of this story alarm or discourage you. I'm trying to include everything which might be helpful to anyone who wants to do this. It really isn't difficult. Incidentally, it probably wasn't necessary to replace the mover/auger in my machine as it looked to be in very good condition, but I thought it wise (at another's suggestion) to replace it in case it might wear the other parts prematurely. I hope this helps somebody out there and that I didn't forget anything. Again, the parts come with very good instructions. Just don't forget the grease!

Top part of agitator (auger) was not turning
Using kit 285587 was straight forward. Removed fabric softener dispenser & sealing cap. It took more time to find the socket set (needed a 7/16 socket) with a long driver (10 inch) than to unscrew & remove the auger & agitator.
Cleaned up the bowl whilst it was apart (good buildup of junk under the agitator). Replaced agitator, new thrust washer to find that grease should be applied but isn't included in kit (get part not 350849). Grrr.... Applied new auger, cam, dogs and holder. (No instructions in kit for assembling cam, dogs & holder, but you can work it out ok). Applied new bolt & washer, new seal on cap. Installed fabric softener. Could have been a 15 minute job but peace and quiet in the garage makes it worthy of taking longer ;-)

washing machine not agitating
wife complained about washing machine making bad noise and she said it was not spinning. So being the good husband that I am, after she yelled at me 8-10 times I stopped what I was doing and sure enough she was right , the washing machine wasn't working correctly. Started testing the agitator by spinning it back and forth. it would only catch on the dogs every once in a while. the washer is only 3 years old, thought maybe one of the kids toys or lint was interferring with the dogs, pulled this dispenser off the top and then another plastic cap with a black o-ring off and found the agitator and dogs gears worn down and chipped. think it was a 3/8" socket I used, but you need a long extension to get to it. Part was labelled well and it was very easy to order. problem I had was when the new parts came in I had ordered the agitator repair kit ($16) and the thrust spacer ($5). Well it's not that $5 is alot of money but the spacer I had was worn and I was in there anyway so why not. The agitator repair kit comes with a thrust spacer but it was not shown on the otherwise very detailed pictures. So it would cost more for me to pay the shipping to return the unused part than not. the agitator repair kit description reads "This nine piece agitator repair kit comes with a two and a half inch cam, a thrust spacer, and four dogs (agitator dogs) but the thrust spacer is not shown. You could say I was 30% more into parts cost and make it sound worse. Had I been an actual repair man instead of a home do it yourself kind of person, probably would have known to call and speak with a rep vice going at it online solo. anyway, 5 minutes and the washer was back up, wife was happy, and I was able to continue with what i was originally doing.

Washer would not spin
took off back and sides to the washer. laid the washer on it's back and removed worn and broken parts. replaced these parts and put everything back together. The top part of the agitator hasn't worked in a while, while we had it apart we also replaced the clogs. The washer works better than it has in a long time. Spins a lot more water from the clothes which makes drying faster. I would surely do this again. A lot cheaper than a new washer.

upper agitator not turning
removed agitator top by pulling up with hands. Removed inner agitator seal body by grasping with pliers and pulling up. Used 7/16 socket with extra extension to remove top agitator retension bolt. Removed top agitator body and thrust spacer by lifting off of agitator base. Assembled dogs on body as shown in instructions. Replaced thrust spacer on top of agitator base. Installed upper agitator body. Placed dog body inside upper agitator. Placed small piece of paper over 7/16 socket and forced bolt into socket. This held bolt in upright position as I replaced it down inside the upper agitator body and dog assembly with the long extensions. Replaced O-ring on inner agitator seal body and replaced into the upper agitator body using the long extensions to tap it into place. Pressed top agitator cap onto top of upper agitator body. All done. The agitator repair kit purchased had a thrust spacer in it but was not the correct one for my model so I purchased the correct spacer separate. The website is great because it shows the parts in detail so you can take your time and get the proper parts first time, everytime.

Agitator auger failed to move properly
Piece of cake. Pulled the single retainer bolt from inside the auger. A slight tug up and the entire auger agitator assembly was out. Then I disassembled the guts of the agitator cam and cleaned it up. Following the directions that were in the replacement packages. (very good instructions in plain English, finally ! ) I replaced the damaged "dogs" and reversed the install process. It works like a dream and my 87 year old mother couldn't be happier. Some of the teeth on the gears within the gear case stripped. And also, some of the agitator clutch parts were warped (they were plastic).
I'm not the one who actually did the repair, so I can't give you a blow-by-blow description. But my friend did the actual repair (I found and ordered the parts from your web site).
There was one almost insurmountable problem, however. The three-pin cog that connects the new gear case to the rest of the washing machine was changed.......the cross-section of each of the cogs was not round.....but teardrop shaped. I ordered the correct gear case, based upon the model number of the machine, but apparently somewhere down the years Whilrlpool must have changed the cog profile design.
So, the man who did the repair simply got out a metal mill file and filed down each of the cogs so that they were round. It wasn't perfect, but it worked.

Cloths mover was worn out
1st removed the cap, then took nut drive/ long socket and removed the agitator nut. Pulled up and removed the agitator / cloths mover. With a gentle pull and twist the cloths mover separated from the agitator. The old dog assembly fell out in the process. Installed new dog kit in agitator and put new cloths mover on the agitator. Put back in machine and tightened nut. Your web site is great . Easy to navigate and understand. Parts shipped same day and were at my house the next day. Great Prices and also found the live chat useful. Will sure to use again.
For this repair I do recommend replacing both the dogs and the cloths mover as the slots in the cloths mover do wear.

How do you rate your cam size? This kit is called the medium cam agitator repair kit but I don’t know what size cam I have ….
Hi Shannon, great question! A medium cam kit 285811 (which is this part) is the most common, and is approximately 2.25 inches. We recommend either measuring your old cam, or entering your model number to confirm which size you need. For the long cam agitator kit you can order this 285748, for the short cam agitator kit you can order this 285809. I hope this helps.

If I put anything more than a small load in my washer the agitator will not spin. Does that mean I need a new agitator or is there any way I can repair it?
Hi Cynthie, if your cam kit is faulty it could cause the washer to not agitate properly. I would check the cams first. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

The lower section of my washer's agitator works fine. The upper section does not move with a load of clothes. It will turn in a clockwise direction with just water in the tub but if I simply grab a hold of it, it will not move at all. If I apply any sideways pressure on the upper agitator towards the tub wall it engages even with a full load of clothes and will start agitating but as soon as i stop applying the pressure the upper agitator stops moving. What parts would you recommend?
For model number LXR7144EQ1
Hello Mark,
Thanks for your question. This is most likely due to worn-out agitator directional cogs, otherwise known as the "dog ears". The part number is PS388034. If they seem intact, the agitator repair kit or the drive motor coupling may be worth checking as well.
I hope this helps.

Bought agitator repair kit #ps334650 from you and got it all installed per your video but the bottom part of the agitator is going in a clock wise direction and the top i can hold onto the top portion of the agitator and it is not catching and pushing the clothes back down. Any suggestions? Could it be that the inside of the top agitator teeth are worn out since they have new dogs? Can i get that part for the washing machine? Thank you for your help
For model number KAWE565BWH0
Hi Tam,
Thank you for your question. If the washer is not agitating correctly, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check the agitator directional cogs, the direct drive motor coupling, the thrust spacer, the clutch assembly and the lid switch. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

With this repair I’ve been kinda guessing at what I need to do but now that the parts are here I need to get the agitator removed and install the agitator repair kit. Do you have any recommendation before I start?
Hi Byron, first you should remove the agitator, then inspect the agitator shaft for damage or rust. If it is bad the complete gearcase will need to be replaced. Next you can install your agitator and cam kit. Best of luck with this repair!

My washer fills with water but will not agatate, what parts do i need ?
Hello Gayla, that is a great question. If the washer will not agitate after filling with water, most of the time it is the lid switch/latch. If that part is faulty it will not allow the washer to start agitating since the door is unable to lock. Hope this helps!
