The drive wheel had worn teeth
The replacement part arrived so swiftly I didn't know what it was until I opened the packet.

The motor drive shaft has two flanges on it that can accept a narrow wrench and the drive wheel can be screwed off clockwise!
Alternatively the drive wheel can be easily prised off and the drive wheel screwed on anti-clockwise thread.
Success
Of course if the drive wheel was made of a more durable material this would not have been a problem unfortunately typically american not made to last!

Shattered drive coupling on blender
I looked on the Web for help in changing this part they suggested prying the part off with a screwdriver. This would work but I figured this approach was a little to brutal.I had a set of distributor wrenches and these had one that fit the shaft under the drive coupling Using the wrench to hold the shaft I used a small set of water pump pliers to remove the coupling. As the directions on the Web states this is a reverse thread. The whole project took all of five minutes to complete

Small Tabs Broken Off
I utilized the "pound the coupling in a clockwise direction" to loosen the coupling. Two good "wackes" and it was loose. Installed new coupling. I found this method in the previous customer installation instructions on the site. Please note that my new part number is ps401661. This part works normally even though my model number did not list a part number, perhaps because my blender is an older model. Without the installation instructions site I would not have known that the thread was a "reverse thread". This site is very helpful. Good luck

Hammer was used to remove the old one, tapping quickly on old coupling. I did use a thin pliers (wire stripper) to hold shaft when I screwed on new coupling, even though it said one did not need to. Good instruction sheet came with the new coupling.

Broken teeth on the drive coupling
Since the coupling is threaded, it can be easily screwed on and off if you immobilize the shaft. If you don't have a tool that can do this (the space between the drive coupling and the body of the blender is only about 1/8"), you can insert a long bladed screwdriver into the vents on the bottom of the blender and into the motor. When you turn the coupling, the motor won't rotate and you can easily screw off the coupling (the threads are reversed, so turn the opposite way). Good luck!
Good
