The brushes on the inside of the motor were destroyed. We thought that it would be easier to just replace the brush holder and the brushes, however, the brushes were easy! and QUICK! The brush holders...not so much. We had lots of problems getting the brush holders into place because of a metal piece that had to fit perfectly on top of the brush holder. It made it easier when I held the mixer upside down (we dissembled it) and my husband did his magic on fixing the brush holders. Pray that you won't need to replace the brush holders because it was NO FUN...but the brushes were QUICK AND EASY :)

After I dropped a part of the shield into my mixer the motor screamed and I unplugged the mixer. I found out I had a broken worm gear. I then order the part and per the helpful video I did the repair and I also changed the brushes my mixer is up and running waiting for the holiday baking season thanks to Part select.com Very easy Instructions to follow I am very happy with the results. it was a kitchen aid dough mixer, had to take the top portion off and replace the assembly with a new one that holds the teflon gear. You can purchace the gear only and it becomes less expensive, but at the time I didn't take the chance cause the greese was there and didn't want to take a chance. Its a simple repair by removing some cotter pins and phillips head screws.

and I thought replacing the hinge pin would fix it, I used an awl to push out the old pin then used the new pin to push the old one all the way out. That did not fix the problem. Went to a store to look over a new one and saw that the screw under the head at the hinge point on the new machines was not screwed in tight. Turns out that screw is the "bumper" for the head against the neck, so the head is held back by the screw. FIXED

Initially removed carbon brushes then inserted the new carbon brushes. The motor still did not turn on. Then I removed the brushes again, used a flashlight to look in the hole where the carbon brushes are installed. I noticed that there was a square notch on one side of the hole. I then reinstalled the carbon brushes, ensuring that the beveled side of the carbon brush was installed so it lines up with the square notch. This allows the carbon brushes to touch the motor. I turned the unit on and it worked.

I griped each foot with a pliers and twisted it out of its setting. I then set a new foot in place and hammered it into place with a small hammer. The feet fit snugly and did not need to be glued. Job was easy and mixer sits like new. I was glad I spent the money to replace all of the feet at once.

Replacing the base retaining bracket(what KitchenAid calls the screw cap) solved the problem immediately. The entire replacement effort took no more than a minute requiring removing 3 screws, discarding the old base, putting in the new one, and putting the screws back in. PartSelect was very easy to do business with. They shipped the part the day I ordered it and it arrived as scheduled. Can't be easier than that.

The plastic worm gear was stripped,I took it apart first then cleaned out all the old grease so when the new part came it together like a charm.

Placed pin in the hole...some wiggling had to be done for a tight fit. Installation complete!

Change brush's

unscrewed old part, put in new part.New part much better design than old one. Works great. Your service is great. Had the part in a 2-3 days. Awesome.
