58RIAD Whirlpool Refrigerator - Instructions

My husband is a plumber...but did not have time to make the repair. So I took it upon myself!

Super Easy!

1. Unplugged Fridge
2. Unscrewed the 3 screws on motor
3. Pulled out old motor
3. Had to pour some hot water to melt ice cubes that were currently in the shoot. (because the new part would not line up correctly because of the frozen cubes inside the maker). Then soaked up all the water with towels.
4. Inserted the new motor
5. Put 3 screws back in.

ICE, ICE BABY! Within a couple hours it was dropping ice into the bucket! Husband came home, and I told him I fixed the ice maker (his expression was of dread)...and then he checked it out and all was perfect! So proud!

Change motor on icemaker by taking the screw out the bottom ice tray so it will slide out once I remove the I took door off the icemaker it pops off. And follow the instructons for shower

removed front cover installed gearbox then attached lift arm plugged in frig turned on h2o and now i have plenty of ice ! ordered part on Saturday got part on monday in the mail and had ice by supper what a great place to shop and the service was great and parts made easy to find on the website. thank you very much! I determined that the plastic lever inside the icemaker was broken and I found the part easaly. It was farelly inexpensive considering the important job the ice maker does, so I order it and paid for the standard, 5-8 days delivery. To my surprise, it was delivered (to my neighbors house thanks to the delivery person) the next day. Once Berry the neighbor delivered it to my house, 15 minutes later ice was being made. I had to remove one screw and losen two on top of the icemaker, disconnect power and remove the icemaker. I don't think that this step was even required but I wanted to remove all of the old ice from the maker without thawing out the freezer. Replacing the part itself also required removal of three screws. I think that almost anyone can do this easily (with or without Berry).

sears wanted $450 to replace ice maker or $400 for refubished. I ordered a $60 motor/control unit from parts select. Remove ice maker, remove motor cover, three screws replace and ice within the hour.

I removed the two screws that hold the ice maker door. I then removed the single screw on the right underside of the ice maker. I depressed the plastic "catch" on the left underside of the assembly and the whole thing just pulled straight out. I then disconnected the wire harness.

The module cover is removed, then the module itself is easily removed by removing three screws.
The assembly is just as easy.

A few hours later, I had a half bucket of ice!

Went very easy, watched the video from the web site and did what it showed to do and put it together and it worked.We now have ice.

First I replaced the thermostat. (from this company.) Same thing happened. Then I thought the ice heater has too low voltage and does not melt it for extraction. So, I put a short on the relay on the beam receiver board. No difference. Then completely disassembled the ice maker, and discovered the shaft cracked on the plastic gear, which rotates the ice extractor. So, I ordered and received this control assembly. Put together the unit and having ice again. Due to the cracked gear the thing was out of timing. This gear drives the contactor for letting water in, freezing time, heating the ice, (so it slides out easily), etc

Removed ice maker from freezer area. Motor in ice maker was not rotating ice dump bar. Replaced control and motor assembly. Problem solved.

The icemaker assembly came out after I unplugged the electrical supply and I cleaned the prongs on the heater and put it together and slid in the whole module back and plugged it in. Works like a charm. No tools were needed.

When the ice maker stopped making ice I decided to try to fix the problem myself and save some money in the process. I found out it was really easy to repair, especially after I went to partselect web site and found the part. It took me less than 30 minutes to do the repair and install the new control and motor assembly.Thanks to partselect.com I saved $145.00 serviced call and labor.I would rate partselect.com a ten. i followed the video instructions provide by a link and it was perfect to repair

removed the swing cover - the 1/4" head screws in the bottom of ice maker - slide out complete ice maker part way and unplug control wiring - place ice maker on counter and removed (pulled off) cover then removed the 3 screws holding the control module in place replaced by working in the reverse order
