Fridge quit working.

A little research told me the hum plus no cooling was either the compressor or the relay. I ordered the new relay and put it in but it didn't fix the problem. I ended up having to buy a new fridge, but it was worth the $30 gamble to see if I could fix it on the cheap and it saved me the money a service call would've cost. Pretty easy installation, just in a tight space on my model.

I ordered the parts to replace broken ones, and they arrived.

There were no directions. Everything was self-evident. It was actually impossible to screw up, although the parts did not exactly snap together immediately. A bit of juggling and a bit of careful force (you don't want to break the plastic) was needed, but I prevailed!

Fan motor in the freezer was not working. The freezer was still cool enough to keep the food froozen, but the refrigerator was not keeping the food cool and the liquids were getting warmer than normal.

Very easy process. Watch the YouTube video, it goes step by step for the repair. The part was $33, shipping was $6. Take your time and fix it yourself or pay $500 for a new refrigerator.

Freezer worked, no fridge

Removed panel over the motor in the freezer department. Removed screws holding the motor in, unplug wires. Reversed process to install motor.

Refrigerator did not cycle

Installation was fairly straight forward. The major complaint is that the problem returned 2 weeks later. I don’t know if I care to re-invest in another switch.

Door shelf broken

snapped shelf end cap in place, now my wine bottles don't fall on the floor when you open the fridge door!

Evaporator was freezing up and was running non stop

I tested the components in the refrigerator defrost function. I used digital multimeter and checked for continuity. Defrost thermostat must 32 degrees or lower.

Retaining bar was broke

Snap left and right end cap onto the retaining bar then snap onto the door

Defroster didn't work

Ordered a new defroster timer and replace old one. It works just fine. A $35 repair vs a $500 new appliance.

Refrigerator evaporator coil was icing up

The evaporator coil is behind the freezer. Remove the rack that makes the shelf and remove two 1/4” hex head screws I the back of the freezer to access the coil.
I used a hair dryer to melt the ice off the coil.
The thermostat clips on the refrigeration pipe to the coil. Remove the old thermostat and cut the wires at least a few inches from the thermostat. Clip the new thermostat on the pipe and strip about a 1/4” of the wire ends. The electrical connectors (provided with the new part) must be crimped to connect the wires.
