This OEM water filter works with side-by-side and bottom freezer refrigerators. You will find this filter mounted in a vertical position in the back upper right-hand corner of the refrigerator compartment. If your model does not have an indicator light, remember to use the month and year stickers on the new cartridge to remind yourself to replace it in another 6 months. Replacement timelines can vary according to your local water conditions. To install the new filter, you will first match the threads with the corresponding threads on the holder. Position the top of the new cartridge up into the holder without pushing it upward. Carefully turn it to the right until it will no longer turn. Make sure you run water through the dispenser right after installation. This clears the system and prevents sputtering. If you have an LCD model, press the Filter Replaced button to reset. If you have a non-LCD model, press and hold the Reset Water Filter button on the dispenser for a few seconds. This filter filters down to 0.5-1 microns. The lower the micron the more toxins are caught and lessened.

Needed to replace water filter
The old filter twists out and the new one twists in. The hardest part was bleeding off water thru the dispenser to make sure all the air was out of the line.

GE PROFILE side by side with water & ice in the door.
I bought all new GE Profile Stainless Appliances about 3 years ago. We love the features, but find the plastic parts (milk shelf, cripser drawers, fronts/pulls for freezer baskets) keep breaking....not happy. Quick ice is a fabulous feature though! Anyway, thank goodness for partselect. I can order the replacement parts I need and install them myself quickly and with no tools so far. Their delivery is always prompt too.

Water Filter Replacement
GE Side by Side Refrigerator Water Filter Replacement 1. The trick is to purchase the correct Filter. 2. We use GE MSWF, some filters just don’t fit. 3. The “RESET FILTER” will light when the filter needs replaced. 4. Remove the old filter and throw away. 5. Insert the new filter, turn ¼ turn to the right. 6. Get a tall glass, set “WATER”. 7. Dump water in the sink, repeat, flush for 5 minutes. 8. Hold “RESET FILTER” button for 3 seconds to reset. 9. Enjoy!

It seems that I cannot find a water filter that is for "k" series. I have tried other recommended filters and they do not work. Where does this leave me sitting with a 10 year old refrigerator that has no ice maker and does not dispense ice?
