KSM182CADFL0 KitchenAid Mixer - Instructions

After I dropped a part of the shield into my mixer the motor screamed and I unplugged the mixer. I found out I had a broken worm gear. I then order the part and per the helpful video I did the repair and I also changed the brushes my mixer is up and running waiting for the holiday baking season thanks to Part select.com Very easy Instructions to follow I am very happy with the results. Unscrew and dismounted the mixer, gather all pieces and screws, cleaned and washed every part, took away the old grease and replaced it with a new one, also looked carefully for the lost teeth and found them, Put grease in every part, put back and screwed all the pieces of the mixer, then tried the mixer which worked really well.

Took the mixer down to the gear box. Found the plastic drive gear had a few stripped teeth. Did a search on the internet for the mixer gear. Found a couple of suppliers. Ordered the needed gear, pin and a bearing block just in case it was worn. The bearing block did not need to be replaced. Cleaned the broken off teeth from the gear grease and put the mixer back together. All worked fine when I plugged it in.

I found a video on how to repair mixer that would not turn. Watched video several times and replaced worn worm gear. Getting the old worm gear was the most difficult part of the job. I had to go purchase a pin punch ($5.50) with the correct tool is was easy.

I discovered the brushes were worn, and one side had broken off and lodged against the armature.I got lucky as I removed the brush caps and the sleeves the brushes fit into (simple job) and was able to hand turn the armature so the pieces fell down into the bottom of the mixer housing.After removing them, I replaced the brushes and the mixer runs like new. it was a kitchen aid dough mixer, had to take the top portion off and replace the assembly with a new one that holds the teflon gear. You can purchace the gear only and it becomes less expensive, but at the time I didn't take the chance cause the greese was there and didn't want to take a chance. Its a simple repair by removing some cotter pins and phillips head screws.

Repair was easy. Remove the seal ring with a flat blade screwdriver and drive out retaining pin. Pry out lower unit using two screwdrivers, one on each side. Once apart, use spring clip pliers to remove snap ring. Pull out shaft and replace. Clean and lubricate as you reassemble in reverse. Google the model number to get detailed instructions.

Opened beater , removed grease , took bearing off , removed alignment pins ,pulled shaft and pinion out , replaced parts , lubricated with new grease , assembled the whole drive . do not like the plastic gear or the clearance once assembled has a lot of slop for this type of drive .

I was very happy with the customer services department and the support I received in identifying the part I needed for the repair. I received an email confirming my order with all details. I do wish you had a more cost effective shipping alternative, like Priority mail.
The repair went well and the mixer is back in business, for making those Chocolate Chip Cookie and brownies if you know what I mean.

Unscrewed 3 Philips screws. Pried out the old screw cap. It had been there for 25 years and had flour, egg, etc. build up over the years. Did use a needle nose plier to lift it out. Put in the new one. Needed a rubber mallet to snug it down. Design has changed slightly over the years. Put the 3 screws back in and as they say in England, "you have an uncle named Bob."

watched instruction video (from Part Select), the demonstration was close enough to enable me to repair the mixer. Newer mixers are disassembled differently.

The plastic worm gear was stripped,I took it apart first then cleaned out all the old grease so when the new part came it together like a charm.

Replacing the base retaining bracket(what KitchenAid calls the screw cap) solved the problem immediately. The entire replacement effort took no more than a minute requiring removing 3 screws, discarding the old base, putting in the new one, and putting the screws back in. PartSelect was very easy to do business with. They shipped the part the day I ordered it and it arrived as scheduled. Can't be easier than that.
