JE740GY010 General Electric Microwave - Instructions

this is not fair to the do it yourself person because I have been an electrican for forty one years I removed the cover spotted the burnt limit switch ordered the part replaced the part and checked operation of the microwave thanks for the painless task of locating and ordering of needed part

I thought I was setting the timer only on the microwave and accidently cooked an empty oven for 10 minutes. It was dead and I used the schematic and figured out the problem. Got the part and installed in 10 or less minutes. Oven is back in action.

Per instructions on part select.com website. But needs further repair because still doesn't heat food and pad is partially disabled.

remove the housing,replaced the magnetron and reassembled.no problems at all

Removed power from unit. Removed 7 screws from cover on bottom of microwave. Unplugged the power connector from the installed motor. Removed 2 screws holding motor. Positioned new motor using small nibs used for purpose of proper positioning. Used mounting screws removed from old motor to firmly fix new motor in place. Installed original mounting screws holding bottom cover in place. Connected power and tested operation.

Removed outer case, checked fuse first, it was good so went to thermostat. No continuity reading. Unhooked thermostat, used jumper wires to by-pass break—briefly plugged the unit in. It came on so I knew the issue was definitely the thermostat.

Just open door and install the new cooking tray in the grooves.

completly removed outer cabinet,discharged capicator,removed some internal parts so I could get at the magnetron,
.removed replaced magnetron,reinstalled inner parts& cabinet .tested microwave viola
everything worked again.

Relatively simple for skilled person.

I removed the outside cover of my microwave . ,It slides off , and the the burned out bulb was in a easy location ,and easy to remove, and then I replaced the new one then , replaced the outside cover, pluged in my microwave and bingo '''it was a sucess, and by the way I am 82 years old and like to repair things , so it saved me about 100. 00 With the walk in price of 65. 00. Remove the microwave cover. Requires a phillips screwdriver and a torx security bit/nut driver (there are two security type screws on the back...guess they don't want you to do this at home!). I had to buy the a security bit set (about $7). The diode is easily accessible on the right side under the fan. Requires removing on small phillips screw and unplugging on electrical connection. GE provides some instructions in an envelope on top (after cover removed). There is a warning/instruction to discharge the capacitor before service. This was not a problem for me. Actual diode replacement took 30 seconds. Whole job = 15 minutes.

Remove the back cover screws and remove back/top. Locate the thermostat and remove the two Phillip screws. Cut off old scorched terminals and replace with new terminal connectors on the wire ends and install new thermostat and reassemble.

20 month old GE m/w had made "electrical" smells from beginning. Finally unit failed to turn on. Disassembly was easy except that I needed to buy anti-tamper screw driver bits from Sears to remove two screws. Found the blade connector to the sensor was a loose fit, resulting in severe heating at the connection. Plastic connector was melted and sensor was damaged to the extent this seems a possible fire hazard. Replacing the sensor is trivial, and requires removing one Phillips head screw. Reterminating the defective connector requires basic electrical skills; wire stripping and crimping. Be sure to clip a few millimeters of wire to get undamaged copper. Be sure to replace both connectors if connections feel at all loose. M/w reassembly is trivial.

I took instant pictures at each step to make sure I put the wires back correctly. Removed the front panel. Discharged the capacitor with a voltage meter. Removed parts in front of the magnetron. Removed and replaced the magnetron. Reassembled. Works find now. Small hands, a flashlight and a magnet (for dropped screws) would help. I did not need the pictures.

New part came -- perfect fit, set it in the microwave, no problem.
