The coupling was worn (teeth rot??).
Exactly as described in installation instructions included with new coupling. Great feeling hearing the sound of the motor and fruit being chopped. Mission accomplished!

Drive Coupling Fractured
Per directions, I pried the drive off the screw. I was surprised that the drive came off the screw by just a prying action, but that's how it's done. The metal base to the drive is softer than the screw so there was no stripping of the screw threads. Then I just threaded the new drive onto the screw and done.
The longest time spent was in getting the part out of the package and reading the directions. All told it took less than 5 minutes.
The rubber part of the drive appears to be very brittle as it chipped off the drive gears. But it was easy to repair and they do last about 5 years.

Blender Coupling Disintegrated
As per instructions provided plus other internet advice, we used a large (10 in) flat blade screw driver to pry and remove the existing damaged coupling. There was a small amount of aluminum thread residue left from the old coupling on the motor shaft. We removed this debris, 'lefty tighty'd' the new one and we were blending again! Really simple. We thought about making a 7MM wrench, then we went to our bicycle repair tools, but we the smallest Shimano we had was 10MM. All is well, we have used the blender 3 times with ice and thick stuff with no problems.

Rubber drive coupling disintegrated
A 5/16" thin wrench fits the shaft beneath the coupling. The shaft has a flat side on it. The coupling comes of easily turning clock-wise for the reverse threads..

Broken Coupling and worn-out seal on a Blender
To start with the coupling, I followed the directions by using a flat screwdriver and a thick towel. I placed the towel under the screwdriver to protect the base unit from damage as I pivoted 1/2 of the tip under the coupling, pulling it up as I went around until the coupling popped off. Then I cleaned the remainder of any metal left behind. Then I attempted to screw the coupling on clockwise but the screw opening was slightly to small. So I plugged in the unit and held the coupling with the screwdriver in place and turn the unit on stir and it screwed it on clockwise.
Next, the seal was replaced at the bottom of the jar. And I was finished. Easy as pie.

rubber coupling had broken teeth...
I followed the included instructions.
Removal of the old coupling was easily done by gently prying it up. The threads on ot are much softer that the shaft.
Screwed the new coupling on and done.
I also bought two of these couplings as the rubber on it WILL break off again.

The drive wheel had worn teeth
The replacement part arrived so swiftly I didn't know what it was until I opened the packet.
The motor drive shaft has two flanges on it that can accept a narrow wrench and the drive wheel can be screwed off clockwise!
Alternatively the drive wheel can be easily prised off and the drive wheel screwed on anti-clockwise thread.
Success
Of course if the drive wheel was made of a more durable material this would not have been a problem unfortunately typically american not made to last!

The fingers where sheared off so the blade would not turn.
Pretty muched followed the directions, but after reading all the reviews I knew what do to before the part arrived. Super easy. My blender had been out of commission for a while...now I'm back in business. Well worth the $14 (part and shipping).

Watched the video on the site on how to remove the old one and install the new one and it took me all of 5 minutes, at most. I almost threw it away. Super cheap repair. The product arrived in 2 days too. I am saving the site. They are great.
