21241 (1988) Kenmore Range - Instructions

We watched the video demo & followed it step by step. The project took about 35 minutes and we replaced the hinge on each side of the oven. First we removed the oven from the wall, then dismantled it & cleaned it thoroughly, removed the old hinges and replaced with new ones. the only problem we had was that the pin holding the hinge open was missing on one of the hinges, but we cut a nail and inserted it to hold the hinge open. The job was completed quickly, and the oven door fits and works well. Thanks for the video--it really helped us.

Loosen two screws to remove door. Removed outside trim and other outside screws hold center panel in place. Removed one screw holding hinge in place. Screwed new hinge in place. Re-attached center panel to outside trim and hung door. Easy enough.

I had repair men replace the door hinges 2times and decided the 3rd time to do it myself and save some $. ordering was a chinch, received the parts in 2 days and followed instructions posted on this site. They were excellent. Just a few things I would stress: Lift UP the door to remove, not open the door fully and pull out and also make sure to take the small pins out of the new hinges before closing. They are so small you could over look them. The person who put detailed instructions on this site is to be commended for clarity and detail on "How To" I really appreciated it.

My 31 yr. old grandson very carefully took the whole door apart. Took out the broken window and put the new one back in. He was very careful to put every screw back in the original hole. It took him exactly one hour.

The repair was straight forward. Remove about a million screws and several layers. The only challenge was loosening some baked on screws in the innermost layer. Repair would have been less than an hour if not for those screws. Key advice is to pay attention to the order that each layer went back on. My oven/stove is about 25 years old, but works great. The part was backordered at a local appliance part store from May to ???. I ordered it at PartSelect and it was also backordered for a couple of months. I got it delivered to my home from PartSelect before it ever came in from the local store.

Replaced oven gasket and both oven hinges. Repairs did not work. Oven door is actually worst. Do not waste your time replacing the oven hinges unless they are actually broken. When to Ace hardware and bought a package of 3 super magnets for about $10. Practice placing the magnets on metal strip on outside of the actual oven vs the oven door. This metal strip is not galvanized for which the oven cleaning latch goes through. Appeared to solve the problem. I then used epoxy glue to insure the super magnets would permanently stay in place. These are dangerous magnets that must be kept away from children and pets. You will spend more time separating these magnets from each other than gluing them in place. This part I will let you figure out but the only way to separate the 3 magnets from each other is the slide them, one at a time, from each other. Now I am awaiting 4 to 6 hours for the epoxy to cure. My husband removed the old element and replaced it with the new one. I think he used a screw driver to remove and replace. The part shipped and arrive in 5 days. Quick and easy!

The most difficult part of the repair was removing the two Phillips screws that attached the element to the back wall of the oven. With some WD40, and a hammer to tap on the screws through the screw driver (and several hours) the screws finally came loose. Once the screws were out it was a matter of removing the two wires connected to the element and reconnecting the wires to the new element. After removing the screws this job took less than 5 minutes.

Remove screws, remove old coil, place new coil, screw back in. The hardest part of this task is removing the existing screws which are most likely partially corroded and hard to move.

The heating element in our old old oven broke in half. Luckily we were able to find a replacement part (which we didn't think we would that's how old the oven is)! The part arrived within a couple of days, my husband removed the old element (toughest part was getting the two old screws unscrewed) plugged in the new one and he was done. Took about 5 minutes! I turned on the over to test it was connect properly and it started heating up right away! We are VERY happy !! :o)

Removed racks from oven, unscrewed two screws holding old element in place with philips head screw driver from the back wall of oven. Carefully pulled element from oven to expose connecting wires and then pulled two wires loose from old element. Reconnected wires on new element and carefully reinstalled element to rear of oven interior with two screws removed from original element.

Removed the screws from the back of the oven to remove the damaged element; removed the electrical connectors and reattached to the new element and screwed it back in

We removed the 2 screws at back of oven that hold element on, which took some doing as they were very rusted. We then pulled old element out; this proved a bit difficult because the ends of the old element were stuck in the insulation behind. We had to wiggle the old element back and forth a bit to get it loose from the insulation. Other than that, it was easy.
