Is this marked "250V/20A 125/15A" across the top?
If so, in my SMH8165ST microwave there are two of these; one on the "floor" of the compartment behind the control panel and one attached to the "back wall". The latter blew and fails the continuity test.
I've also heard these referred to as "thermal fuses" on some Youtube videos. Are these really thermostats or fuses? Do thermostats fail as they age?
For model number SMH8165ST
Hello James, thank you for your inquiry. The high limit thermostat you mentioned is rated as 125/250V, 15/10A, and 120C. Your model comes with multiple thermostats. They work as a safety device that shuts off the microwave if it overheats. The thermostat located on the left of the back wall is part number PS4226487. The thermostat located on the right of the back wall is part number PS4226404. The high limit thermostat located behind the control panel is part number PS4226453, and the one located on the right side is part number PS4226417. We would recommend replacing the one which blew out. These are also known as thermal fuses. They can fail due to age, but most commonly they fail if it did not open due to excessive temperature. Glad to be of help!
Where is the thermostat located in this microwave? A picture or drawing of location would be helpful. thanks,

Hello Paul, Thank you for the question. The Thermostat is located on the plate the Magnetron sits on behind the control panel inside the cabinet. We hope this helps!

Microwave no power. Ceramic fuse good. Door switches good. One thermal switch reads open and the other reads closed. If this is correct, what should I do next. I’ve had this microwave for 3 year. This is the third time this has happened. I think they replaced a board. I should have made a note. Thanks

Hello John, Thank you for the question. If the fuse and switches are good and the appliance is getting power, the next part would be the Relay Board PartSelect Number PS9606526. We hope this helps!
