Washer wouldn't run
I removed the two screws on the back of the control panel. The control panel then flips back. The switch is on the left side. To remove the switch, I first detached the wire to the control panel and unscrewed the grounding wire. The new switch drops right in. I had a little trouble getting it in until I realized the washer lid had to be open. A little awkward but once it's in you can shut the lid and then I reattached the wire from the control panel and screwed in the grounding wire. Pretty easy. $20 for the part (with shipping) and 15 minutes. Way cheaper than a repairman.

washer would not run
First, I removed the two screws that hold the back-top in place. I removed the top to get to the control timer. I replaced the control timer with a new part and replaced the lid switch (which I broke removing the old one). Put it all back together and still nothing. I removed the two spring U clamps at the top back that hold the entire casing in place. I removed the casing. I checked out the wires leading to the motor and the white wire showed signs of a burn. When touching this wire it broke off. I used a pigtale from the connector to the old wire, soldered it in place and put it all back together AND, WOW, LUCKY ME it has been working since.
The parts I ordered on Monday, came to my house the next day and I did not pay for additonal shipping. I returned the timer and the $ was credited to my account in about one week. Partsselect is about the best experience I have had on the internet.

Lid Switch Failed - Machine Filled but Stopped
I bought the manual and the switch. I found the manual to be rather generic version that caused problems from the start because the screws to remove the control panel were not in the location shown. Once I had the machine disassembled, removing and replacing the switch was a very simple task. I took time to clean inside the cabinet. That took an extra few minutes. If I had to do this job again today, it could be done in less than 30 minutes. Note: there was a sheet metal screw on the back of the cabinet, left side, near bottom This screw was also not noted in the manual and when I pulled the cabinet forward, the screw was torn out and the cabinet bent slightly. No major damage,

Lid switch stopped workin
Unplug washing machine from electrical outlet. Remove two screws that go at a 45 degree angle into the top of washer from behind control panel. Pull panel console towards you and then up. unplug lid switch from wire harness. It's in upper left corner of the washer. A little awkward but lid must be open. pull switch up from top of washer. insert new one, it just clips in, then plug back into harness. Re mount control console and you are done.

Washer full of water, wouldn't cycle
Although your website mentioned removing 2 screws to open the control panel, it took a while to realize there were 2 screws and 2 hex nut screws to open it followed by 15 minutes of efforts to release the control panel from the top of the washer by sliding it forward. After that it took 2 minutes to replace the switch; the web comment of keeping the lid open was helpful.
Unfortunately, the lid switch was not the problem; replacing the timer did the trick, was very easy with the control panel already opened and required the purchase of 1/4 and 3/16 hex nut drivers.
Parts, shipping and tools cost $110 but the success of the repair with your parts and advice was priceless.

Washer lid switch worked sometime, sometime not
First, I'm so excited that this site exists because I knew that the problem was minor and I didn't want to pay the outrageous housecall price of a repairman. I read other customers' experiences on how they fixed the problem and that made it sooo easy! Basically unscrewed the screws on the far left and right on the top panel, folded it down toward front, unscrewed and unplugged the ground wire and replaced the part. Someone else had warned that the lid should be open to remove it and that was a huge time-saver. Thanks so much! The part was broken because of very poor design. The part actually worked fine, but the piece of thin plastic that held the part in place broke. Back to the drawing board Whirlpool.

My washer stopped mid-cycle and acted completely dead
I thought the click of the lid switch sounded different so I pulled the top console and tested it for continuity in both positions and found none. When I by-passed the switch the washer started up, so I knew what the problem was. There are four screws involved to remove the console which reveals the lid switch to the left side. There's a single screw for a ground wire but the switch itself is simply snapped in place after disconnecting the wire harness plug (must be done with the lid open btw).

I was lucky to diagnose the problem accurately so that the first thing I suspected turned out to be the problem!

washer wouldn't start up after filling & closing lid
First I loosened the 2 screws on the outside of the top control assembly with a philips screwdriver. Then I took out the 2 other screws toward the top on the back with a socketwrench.Next I removed the top so I could access the switch. After that I removed the broken switch and unhooked from wire hareness. I then hooked up the new switch and snapped into place. Last I put the top back on and screwed into place.

Thanks for your quick reply to my question of how to access the lid switch. Unfortunately my unit does not have the two screws in the back of the control panel. Mine is a performa series unit purchased in 2008.
For model number MTW5740TQ0

Hi John, Thank you for getting back to us. Before beginning any repair, please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet or turn the circuit breaker off. First, pull the washer away from the wall to access the backside. Once removed from the wall you will need to loosen the Philips head screws holding the back panel in place. You will need to slide the top panel forward to release it from the mounting tabs. Rotate back the top panel which will expose the existing lid switch. Use a nut driver to remove the screw holding the ground wire in place. Lift up the top lid which will move an arm inside that connects to the switch by moving that arm it will allow you to remove the switch. Squeeze on the release tab to remove the switch and disconnect the wiring harness that goes to the lid switch. Reconnect the new switch to the wiring harness. Lift up the lid again and position the new switch and push it down so it clips into place. Lower the lid and connect the ground wire and screw it in place. With the switch installed, take the top panel and roll it back down into position and align the top panels mounting tabs then lock it into place. Use a Phillips head screw driver to tighten the remaining 2 screws into place. Reconnect the power cord or turn the circuit breaker back on and the washer should be ready to use. I hope this helps with the repair.

How do i access lid switch?

Hi John, Thank you for your inquiry. There is a repair story that one of our customers provided on how they installed the part. The customer advised, "I removed the two screws on the back of the control panel. The control panel then flips back. The switch is on the left side. To remove the switch, I first detached the wire to the control panel and unscrewed the grounding wire. The new switch drops right in. I had a little trouble getting it in until I realized the washer lid had to be open. Pretty easy. $20 for the part (with shipping) and 15 minutes. Way cheaper than a repairman." I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

The lid switch in my washer got burned so what i did was, connect directly, the Green and gray cables, it was working ok, but now, sometimes it works ok, and sometimes won't do anything, except fill itself with water, do you guys think if i buy the lid switch it will work ok once again??
PartSelect logo
Hi Hiram, Thank you for your inquiry. I believe that yes it should. Bypassing your lid switch can sometimes just be a temporary thing and may not work for very long. Reinstalling a working switch may fix the issue that you are having if nothing else went wrong. Good luck with your repair.

My washer will not advance itself through the cycles unless i manually push it in, and turn it to the next cycle. Does it sound like the lid switch, or the dial itself? Thank you in advance
PartSelect logo
Hi Dominic, Thank you for your inquiry. If your timer is not advancing the lid switch is the most common part that will fix the issue. Some other parts you may have to look at as well are the timer, the water level control, the timer knob and skirt, the drain pump and the water inlet valve. For the electrical parts, I would use a multimeter to check the continuity on each of them. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

My washer will not advance itself through the cycles unless I manually bang on the lid. Does it sound like the lid switch, or the timer itself? Thank you in advance
For model number KAWS750LQ3
PartSelect logo
Hi Nimish, Thank you for the question. This sounds like an issue with the lid switch assembly. You can also try to manually turn or tap the knob to the timer to see if that triggers it to proceed. If this starts the cycle again, it would be the timer. Hope this helps!

My washer goes through the wash cycle fine, but it stops when it gets to the rinse cycle. However, if i manually advance it a click, it will then continue through the rinse and finish out the cycle. I wondered if it was a problem with the lid switch, but i thought that wouldn't work at all on the rinse/spin cycle if the lid switch were faulty. Can you help me diagnose the problem?
For model number LSC5000PQ2
PartSelect logo
Hello Rich, Thank you for the question. If you can manually turn the knob and have the rinse cycle start, the lid switch is fine. This sounds like a defective timer not advancing, PartSelect Number PS11746307. I suggest replacing the Timer. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!

Hi Rocky, Thank you for your question. Depending on which part is melted, you will either need to replace your switch or the whole wiring harness that your door lock switch connects to. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Hi, I looked on line for reason my Whirlpool ultimate care ii model top loader #lsb6200pq0 will not agitate, spin or drain. The answer I found on line is that my lid switch is probably bad and will need a new one. It's been rather difficult to find the correct part. Some are just a switch with a ground wire others are switch with wire harness and ground wire. My question is if I go and purchase this switch which I believe to be the correct on, and it's not can iI return it? Thank for your help.
