Need to purchase the heating element for the microwave.
The light still comes on, but it is not heating the food.
For model number PT970SM4SS
Hello Tammy, thank you for writing in. Microwaves do not have heating elements. The heat source is generated by the Magnetron Assembly PS239660. If your microwave is not heating, it is most likely because of a faulty magnetron, high-voltage capacitor PS239312 ( discontinued / no longer available), or Diode PS239740. These three components are responsible for heating and cooking the food. We are pleased to have been able to help.
What causes the message locked after self cleaning, door does not open?Tried panel reset/ and unplugged.
For model number PT970SM4SS
Hello Del, Thank you for your inquiry. The self clean cycle uses extreme heat to clean the oven and the door lock will not disengage until the oven sensor detects that the oven has cooled down, which can take approximately 3 hours. If the door is not opening, first try pressing the self clean button again for 30 seconds and then let go and see if the door has unlocked. If it hasn't, try setting a new cycle for 1-2 hours, let the oven completely cool, and try it again. If the door lock still does not disengage, trying manually unlocking the door latching using a coat hanger. Unfold a wire hanger and create a hook that you can use to flip the switch. Slide the flat hook through the area between the door and the main part of the oven. Place the hook over the latch. Pull gently to release the lock. This may take several tries. Be careful not to damage the oven’s finish with the wire hanger. If you continue to get an error message that your door is locked when it isn't, press cancel or off to remove the message. We can also recommend checking the following parts to fix your issue: the oven latch assembly, the oven temperature sensor and the main control board. Good luck with your repair.
Turned out the issue was easily solved by replacing a single, inexpensive fuse.
First off, UNPLUG THE MICROWAVE.
The fuse is located under the plastic grill at the top of the microwave. It's held on by two screws. Once you've removed the screws and taken off the plastic grill, you go to the right side of the microwave and remove another screw that holds a small metal grill in place. Removing the small metal grill is probably the toughest part of this repair. You kind of have to rock it back and forth a bit to get it to release. Once that's off, you can get to the fuse. I removed the burnt out one with a pair of needle nose pliers. I also put a small piece of cardboard under the fuse when I did this so I didn't accidentally drop it into the innards of the microwave. I did the same thing when I replaced the new fuse. I then plugged the appliance back in and made sure it worked. Once that was confirmed, I replaced both grills.
I had to remove the oven from the wall because the sensor plug connction is behind the unit. Two screws hold the sensor inside the oven and then I disconnected the lead and pulled the sensor out from the front. I installed the new sensor, tightened the two screws holding it in and connected the lead. Then reinstalled the oven into the wall. Overall, a very easy repair once you get the oven out.
