My machine will fill with water but not engage the agitator. What part would that be?? Machine probably 25 plus years old thank you

Thank you for your question. If the washer will not start after filling with water, you may have a defective lid switch. Unplug, the washer from the electrical outlet and check that the lid switch is being activated mechanically and that any levers or actuators are not damaged or sticking. If the switch is being activated but there is no power being supplied to the motor or water valve circuits, remove the switch and check it for continuity with a multimeter on the Rx1 setting. You should receive a reading of zero. If you do not receive this reading, you will need a replacement lid switch. We hope this helps!
Machine fills, washes then stops before going into spin cycle. Control area makes humming noise. Machine is old but still cleans the clothes well. Help.

Hello Gene, thank you for reaching out. If the washer is stopping before going into spin cycle, the lid switch and switch actuator needs to be replaced. The Lid Switch Kit, part number PS2002890, contains both. If the lid switch is faulty the machine will refuse to spin. We hope this helps.
Hello Grace, thank you for getting in touch. A washer drum bangs with a large load because of an unbalanced load, which shifts heavy items to one side, make sure the load is balanced. Trying to wash too much laundry in one load can also lead to imbalance and banging. Also check the suspension springs, part number PS11738823, if the springs have become loose or worn out, the washer will bang with large load. Inspect the snubber ring, part number PS11738845. The function of the snubber ring is to reduce noise and vibrations within your washer. We hope this helps.
I used a flat screw driver to push in on the releases so I could raise the top of the machine. I then used a torx tool to remove both parts of the hinge, and then used a #2 phillips screw driver, on the new screws I'd also ordered, to re-attach both of the hinge parts. Every thing went just as anticipated.
Unlug the AC cord,open the top from the front it snaps open with a little force and hinges on the back, remove the 2 screws on the front cover and take it off, tip the washer and remove the belt, take off the pump hose from the back (I removed the back cover also) and the little hose going to the basket. Remove the 6 springs and lift the complete drum out of the waser and turn it upside down. You can see the plastic snubber ring that is worn, loosen the 6 screws just enough to get the old ring out and the new one in. WARNING (DO NOT TAKE THE SCREWS ALL THE WAY OUT OR THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY WILL RELEASE AND A SPECIAL TOOL IS NEEDED TO PUT IT BACK) Install the new ring, tighten the screws and put the tub back in connecting everything back up and use the 6 new springs. It really isn't that hard to do.
