Hi! Our GE washing machine started dripping inside the barrel. The next day, the machine turned on by itself and the control panel did not light up/was not lit. So, i've unplugged it and here it sits!

Hi Sheryl,
Thank you for your question. If water is dripping into your washer when it is off, then a component inside the water inlet valve may have failed and it will need to replaced. You will need to test the water inlet valve with a multi-meter. To inspect and test your water inlet valve, disconnect the power source and the water source from your washing machine before beginning. Remove the rear panel of your appliance and locate the water inlet valve. It likely will be located directly behind the hose connections. After removing the valve from the washer, inspect the screens inside the valve for any buildups or debris, removing anything you find. Use caution when doing so as the screens cannot be replaced and if they become damaged you will need to replace the entire valve. You should also inspect the valve for any signs of cracking, wear, or damage. Using a multi-meter on Rx1 mode, place the probes onto the valve’s terminals. The reading you should receive varies from model to model, refer to your owner’s manual for what the reading for a functioning valve should be.
If you receive a reading outside the recommended range, if you receive a reading of infinity, or if your valve is visibly damaged, you will need a replacement water inlet valve. If your washer came on by itself, you should also check the electronic control board for signs of damage, wear or burn marks. If the electronic control board shows any of these signs, it will need to be replaced. We hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day.

My washer makes a loud grinding noise when it rinses and spins and doesn't rinse well. Do you think it is the tub bearing that is rusted? Or what do you think it could be? Thank you for your time!
For model number GTW460ASJ5WW
Hello Christy, Thank you for the question. Normally this is caused by a defective Clutch Assembly. We suggest checking the clutch for wear or damage. We hope this helps!

Washer fills with water and drains at the same time but continues in the wash cycle.

Hi Bill, thank you for contacting us. Make sure that the house drain pipe is at least 30 inches high. Ensure that the drain hose is not inserted too far into the drain. There must be an air gap around the drain hose. A snug fit can cause a siphoning action. If the house drain is not at least 30 inches high, you may need a drain hose clip, part number PS271098. It attaches onto the drain hose and then onto the back of the washer. This lifts the drain hose up to a proper height to prevent siphoning. We hope this solves your problem!
My washing machine fills with water spins for a little bit but doesn't spin for a full cycle but leaves water on the clothes. The drain hose is clear. What can be causing this?
For model number GTW460ASJ5WW
Hello Steve, thank you for contacting us. According to our research on model number GTW460ASJ5WW, the problem appears to be with the lid switch assembly, part number PS16554755. A faulty switch assembly can generate a false signal of door opening which may stop the washer mid-cycle. If that does not help then the issue is likely to be with the control board, part number PS16743401. This electronic control board manages the washer's functions such as filling, washing, draining, and spinning. Customer service is always available to help you place an order if you are having trouble doing so. Good luck with your repair!

Drain all the water out of the tub with a shop vac Remove rear drain hose and drained rest of water into a bucket Remove small rear panel (bottom left hand corner) where the drain hose connects Tipped washer up about 45 degrees to get underneath it - Supported it with a few paint cans Remove internal drain hose/clamps from pump - w/ pliers Remove belt cover (gray plastic) with socket - 3 bolts Remove wire assembly plug from socket Remove old drain pump with socket - 3 bolts Install new drain pump - 3 bolts - plug wire assembly into socket Reinstall belt cover - 3 bolts Reinstall hose to drain pump (note panel will be inside washer) Feed drain hose panel through hole and reinstall - 1 nut Re attached drain hose to exterior drain plug You are done !
Very simple to repair. Be sure to drain the tub outside or into the sump pump then lay the washer on its side. The pump is right there on the bottom of the basket with 3 bolts. You will also need to remove the belt cover to get to the plug. So simple and saves you hundreds off repair man prices.
I thought it was the control board from the onset, but 'Online experts" said it was more likely the mode shifter or the lid lock. I ordered one of each, did not correct problem. Ordered the control board that was designated for this unit, it did not correct problem. Defective? Was send replacememnt, did not fix problem. Twice? Phone conversation with parts person, and after a little digging, it was NOT the correct board, correct board was not available. Returned all parts, refunds all around. Ordered correct board from another site, installed, programed, SUCCESS! Total repair time/installation-less than 15 minutes. Getting the correct part 30 days.
