Why does my GE Refrigerator continue to freeze up/build ice in the back wall of the refrigerator section? We’ve owned this fridge for almost 10 years, but for the past 5 years or so, we have to completely “de-ice” it about every 6 months (unplug it for a few days) to thaw it out. We can see the frost/ice pushing itself through some small vent holes in the back wall of the fridge portion.
These past few years, when it ices up, it starts out making a low noise , which gets louder and louder as more ice builds up, as we can hear the fan blade hitting on the ice.
Any suggestions on how we can fix this permanently?
Thanks,
Mark

For model number GFSS6KEXASS
Hi Brandi,
Thank you for your question. If the door alarm is going off, the door may not be completely shut. If the door is open you will need to close it. We hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day.

I have a GFSS6KKXASS French door frig. It started out leaking water from the icemaker. Replaced toe water control valve. Water will go into the ice maker but will not freeze. Any ideas.
For model number GFSS6KEXASS
Hello Chuck, thank you for writing. If the water will not freeze in the icemaker, typically means a clog is somewhere along the supply line. To repair a frozen line, slide the refrigerator and unplug it. Locate the shut-off valve. Turn the valve to the closed or off position. Fill a turkey baster with warm water and pour the water over the water line. Or, you can defrost the water line with a hair dryer or by letting the refrigerator sit unplugged for upward of two hours. Restore power to the refrigerator and listen for the water supply to fill the ice mold. If you need help placing an order, customer service is open 7 days a week. Please feel free to give us a call. We look forward to hearing from you.

Unscrew old filter and remove(counterclockwise). Line up arrow on new filter with arrow on connection housing. Turn clockwise till resistance met. Do not overtighten. Follow directions. Simple.
The installation video notes that the door mullion spring has a bent end, and that the bent end of the spring is to be inserted into the LOWER hinge. However, on my refrigerator door, the bent end of the door mullion spring must be inserted into the UPPER hinge in order for the door to function properly. (Also noted that in your video the installer manually closed the door mullion rather than just closing the refrigerator door, another indication that the installation of the spring was incorrect.) After watching the video several times to confirm I was installing the door mullion spring according to the video instructions, I tried inserting the bent end of the door mullion spring into the upper hinge, which proved to be the correct installation of the door mull spring. What should have been a 5 minute repair turned into an ½ hour repair.
