Replacement of Magnetron
I UNPLUGGED the microwave and removed the cover, using a phillips and a Torx screwdriver for the machine screws. I set these screws aside, so as not to confuse them with the later encountered screws. I photographed the magnetron to assure proper placement of the 6 phillips machine screws involved in reassembly (marking the the locations on the old magnetron would do as well. I marked the old magnetron "old", to avoid later confusion. I removed the two screws holding the shields to the magnetron. I removed 3 of the 4 screws holding the magnetron to the microwave, leaving one of the top screws. I held the magnetron securely and removed the last screw, pulling out a the part of the magnetron that penetrated the microwave. I installed the new magnetron in reverse order. One problem I encountered was locating one of the six screws, which had been pulled into the old magnetron by magnetism.

Microwave worked intermittently
The door was not engaging the micro switches properly no doubt from 10+ years of wear. The upper switch removed fairly easily but take care not to tweak the plastic brace too much or it will snap. The lower one was the tricky one. After much examination I noticed that the trick to remove it was underneath the brace. Take a butter knife (no joke) and insert it just under the old micro switch and gently press down twisting the micro switch every so slightly til it releases. The replacements snap back in with no trouble. The microwave is working much better now, though not perfect.

motor would start by itself when door closed
remove 4 screws from top, front louvered panel snaps out. remove 1 screw from top of keypad, keypad pivot's forward and can be removed. There is a white mounting bracket inside left. Remove two screws, one top and one bottom, bracket lifts up and out. 3 sets wires are attached, mark them with masking tape, top, center, bottom and pull out plugs. They can only attach one way. Using a very small screw tip, lift plastic latch from switch, it rotates out and is removed from the pivot pin. reassemble in reverse order after switches are replaced

Microwave would not cook
All the electrics worked on Amana microwave EXCEPT for the cooking function. Inspected the control board and found the upper switch on the door interlock was burnt. Installed new switch in minutes and everything now works fine. Unfortunately, had to purchase expensive two switch "kit" although only one switch was kaput. PartsSelect mailing was SUPER fast. Thanks for looking, Scott

Several buttons on key pad did not respond.
1. Unplug power cord. 2. Remove screws holding cover in place. NOTE: The two screws on the back bottom covers have "tamper-proof" heads. If no appropriate screwdriver is available, the pin can be broken by a using a flat blade screwdriver and hammer. With the pin removed, a star bit or even an allen wrench can be used to remove the screws. 4. Remove the connectors from the control module. 5. Remove the control module and housing. 6. If not done in 4., disconnect the ribbon cable from the main board. 7. Remove the circuit board from the housing. Peel the old membrane keypad off the housing. Be sure to clean off all glue residue. 8. Remove the adhesive cover on the center part of the new keypad and CAREFULLY put it in place. You will not be able to remove it once in place so it is imperative to get it placed right the 1st time. 8. Lift the edge of the membrane and peel the cover of the adhesive around the edge. Press lightly. 9. Re-assemble in reverse order.

microwave would not heat.
hardest part was taking the microwave down off of the wall to gain access to the diode. Thought if was the transformer but ended up being just a blown diode. remove and replace and bench test. that part took 15 minutes . moral of the story don't boil water under the side of the microwave that holds the electric components.
