If it is not properly taken care of, it can cause the carburetor to clog and cause damage to the cylinder and piston. A dirty filter also prevents air flow needed to power the engine. If you are experiencing loss of power, trouble starting your equipment, or notice an increase in fuel consumption, these are also common signs that the filter needs to be checked. When performing your regular inspection, you notice it is covered in oil, the fibrous material is ripped or the filter has cracks, it will need to be replaced immediately. To replace the filter, first, disconnect the spark plug. Then remove the air filter cover. Once the cover is removed, pull the filter out of place. Insert the new filter into the base. Reinstall the cover and reconnect the spark plug."
