This is the replacement water filter base for your refrigerator. It is made of plastic and is mainly white in color. The water filter lines will each have a blue release collar at the top. The water filter base is found at the top of your refrigerator, beneath the console, and it is the part that the water filter presses into. If the O-rings have gone bad, and the filter is leaking, or the locking device has failed and the water filter is not locking in, you may need to replace the water filter base. Ice-Maker and Water Dispenser not working.
First I disconnected the power cord, then removed the screws that held the bracket that holds the base for the water-filer in place. I then disconnected the water lines(intake and outflow). Next I removed the screws that held the water-filter's base in place. I then disconnected the release lock mechanism for the filter and finally removed the water-filter base. I did the reverse to install the new water-filter base. Previously I had tested the intake water line and noticed the water was flowing with enough pressure upto the water-filter's base but no water was exiting thru the outflow line, which leads to the Ice-Maker and Dispenser. I had tried changing the filter but that didn't solve the problem it was then I had realized that the Base was the problem. The actual problem was the spring-loaded valves for both the intake and outflow lines, which had a plastic prong that protrudes out of the base that is triggered by the filter when installed. The two prongs were worn-down so the filter wasn't activating the spring-loaded release valve to let the water thru. As for the light, I just unscrewed it.
Unscrewed the water line cover. Removed the platic case around the water filter base. Everything went well until I tried to remove the two water hoses. After I finally figured out that I had to push in the release washer while pulling the hoses out, things went well. Unfortunately it took several hours of wasted time and several searches on the internet to finally figure this part out. From there on out it went smoothly. Old base came out with two screws. Reversed process for reinstall of new base. Water hoses just slipped back into place and locked themselves in. Just takes a little patience.

Water leaking from water filter base.
Tried replacing water filter first. It stilled leaked, so I removed the covers to gain access to the water filter base. After cutting the two hoses to remove the old base, I simply slid the hoses into the new base, screwed it into place, replaced the covers, and then reinstalled the new water filter. No more leak!
Water was leaking from the filter area when in-door water dispenser used
Silly me. It couldn't possibly be the filter because it's worked for the last 9 months with no problems. Decided to replace the water filter base first. Repair was easy. I saw someone had trouble removing tubes from old base and I gave it a couple of tries to no avail so decided to cut the lines instead. Made it even easier. After repair, water continued to leak. So, replaced the filter itself and voila - leak fixed. Make sure you check the filter first. My mistake turned a $40 - 10 second repair into a $100 - 20 minute repair. Good Luck!

Just push the button on the top right hand and pull the filter out; then proceed to instal the new one pushing it in place. It's really an easy operation!!

Water Was Dripping From Base And I Had No Ice Being Made Or Water In The Door.
Removed the plastic water tubes cover with a nut driver. Disconnected water hoses. Dropped control box assembly with nut driver. Removed old filter base with phillips screwdriver. Assembly opposite.

No Water or Ice Dispensing
First I obtained the manual to the refrigerator. I identified the screws to be removed. I turned off the water then unplugged the water lines. I then replaced the Water Filter Base and reassemble the parts. Within minutes of turning on the water, water and ice making had returned. I was a hero for saving the family $200 in parts and labor.

Filter would not seat without releasing itself.
Following previous installation instructions was very useful. Would add that the nut driver needs to be 1/4 in and to release the water lines from the valve body, simply squeeze the blue ring toward the valve and pull on the water lines at the same time. Simple fix!

Is the filter clamp (240396002), part # 139 on the diagram, hard to replace? Do i have to shut off the water to do the repair?

Thank you for your question. Based on customer input regarding this part, the repair has been rated from easy to difficult. Hello Joel, thank you for contacting us. You will want to inspect the valve and make sure its not leaking from there even though it was just installed. That would be the main part that would leak under the fridge. Check the lines going into it as well for any cracks or breaks. Hope this helps!

When I put in the filter and the filter pops out. When I hold the water comes out the dispenser but when I don't hold it the filter pops out.

The water dispenser in the door drips after use, it will drip about 1/4 cup of water then stop. I replaced the water valve on the back but it did not help. Any suggestions?
