plastic panel that holds buttons and becomes part of the opening handle was broken
Removed front lower face covering piece by removing screws from the inside of the door that hold the panel on. Then remove two screws that are into mounting cleats of the plastic shield piece that holds the control buttons. Two plastic clips, one right side, the other left, must be pressed inwards to unclip, so as to release the plastic shield. Since the new part did not come with the chromed plastic piece by the handle area, nor with new buttons in place, those had to be carefully removed and put into the new part. *NOTE: The buttons controlling the different cycles and times must be replaced in the same order as they were on the original part or the buttons will not work correctly. Each button has a slightly different length of the extended post on the back side of the button. That post engages the rubber covered mechanism of the control panel. As the new shield is slightly curved the buttons must go back in with the one with the shortest post placed on the right side through to the one with the longest post on the left / closest to the center position. It must be in a graduated order. I used scotch tape to hold them in this order once I had sorted them out for post sizes. Plastic side clips of the new shield were re-engaged on to hold it and then screws were put back on lower cleats. Lower external face covering was reinstalled using same screws that held it before it was removed.
