Our dryer started squealing and would then stop running.
After determining that the dryer motor was the issue I wrote down the part number and logged on to partselect.com.
I input the number into the search box and there was the exact motor I needed.
The price was fair and the delivery quick so I figured I would give yuo guys a shot and see how it goes.
The part showed up on time and as expected. It was well packed and most importantly - it was the CORRECT part.
I disassembled the dryer which involved removing the lint trap, pulling out the blower fan and removing the motor cover. The motor was held in with 2 metal screws and wiring harness.
I took the belt off of the tensioner and pulled out the old motor. The motor was mounted with 2 clips which snapped off with ease. Reassembly was a breeze since the motor fit perfectly- the entire transplant operation took all of about 35 minutes.
I crossed my fingers, turned on the gas, plugged it in and........SUCCESS!
Since the dryer was down for over a week the backlog of laundry was piled pretty high. This replacement motor would immediately be put to the test.
It has been 5 days of non-stop drying and no squeeks, no squeels and nothing but dry clothes!
Thanks to Part Select for getting everything right the first time. It made a potentially very bad experience turn out as good as I could have ever hoped.

Dryer would start and then stop after a few minutes, eventually it completely stopped.
After determining that the dryer motor was the issue, I wrote down the part number and logged on to partselect.com website.
I input the number into the search box and there was the exact motor I needed.
The correct part showed up in a timely manner and the pricing was very fair.
I disassembled the dryer, removed the old motor and reinstalled the new motor within about 30 minutes.
Key point was to read the instructions first and then reconnect the wiring to the new motor. The new motor has the switch install in a different spot on the motor so be careful to follow the instructions but, the instructions were very clear and connections were very simple.
I also did some preventive maintenance while I was in the unit by cleaning out any remaining lint from the heater unit and surrounding areas, that took about 30 minutes. Reassembling was a snap and I turned on the gas, plugged it in and........SUCCESS! Total time of repair and cleaning was about an hour.
I had a load of laundry ready to go and put the new motor right to work. It has been non-stop drying and thanks to Part Select for getting everything right the first time. It has been a positive experience and I will tell others about the website if they have similar problems. Thanks again for a success story and dry clothing.

Dryer motor bearings failed. Motor wouldn't start.
Disassembled dryer. That was the hard part. Figuring out how to get the top off the dryer so I could get the drum out took the most time. The end caps on the control panel had to be removed by forcing them outward to release the plastic catches. Then the bottom corner screws were removed to allow the panel to swing up out of the way. The top panel could now be removed. To gain access to the belt and tensioner the blower and ducting off the front of the motor had to be removed to remove the belt. Now the drum was able to be lifted out. The motor swap was a cinch with no wiring modifications required. Reassembly was the reverse, with the most difficult thing being tightening up the blower fan. This required putting a wrench on the belt end of motor shaft and holding it while reaching thru a narrow gap on top of the fan ducting.

How would I know if I need a motor? It ran about ten and then it cut off. It will cool off then starts back up.

Thanks for your question. Before replacing the motor, you may want to check the thermal fuse (part number PS11741460), internal-bias thermostat (part number PS11746740), and the door switch (part number PS11741701) as well for continuity. If any of those do not test well for continuity, replace them. If they are all testing properly, it may be worthwhile to replace the motor.

You will need to check the idler pulley, the drum support rollers, the thrust washer, the drive belt, the drum support roller shaft, the wheel blower, the seal and the motor. I hope this helps. Follow up question from tuesday. Dryer won't run after pushing start button and a flash. No error codes on controls. The thermal fuse and thermistor are ok. How do you tell if motor is defective? It "looks" fine no burn areas. It there a test i can do actually tell the motor is defective? Can i jump some contacts to see if it runs?

Hello Roy, thank you for your question. To test a motor for continuity. Unplug the dryer and remove the motor. Take note of where the wires were connected by taking pictures or making a diagram of the locations of the wires. Hold the two test rods on the multimeter to the motor terminals. Set the meter to "X1," which is the test for continuity. If the motor does not produce a reading or the meter display numbers flash endlessly, the dryer motor is burned out and must be replaced. Control panel works. No error code went to start the dryer, there was a flash from inside and and it never started. The drum turns just fine. Will a new motor solve the problem? 15 yr old dryer. Thanx

If these check out fine, we definitely recommend checking your motor as well, but these two parts are more likely a cause. We hope this helps!

When trying to start a cycle i hear a faint “click”, a time-out and then get code f:01 which says replace machine control electronics. Replacement control electronics gives code f:70 (communications error with console). I followed troubleshooting guide with original control electronics. I suspect drive motor burn out, so follow troubleshooting guide. Test #3, step #6 says a good start winding of 2.7-3.0 ohms and main winding of 3.3-3.6 ohms. I measure 0 ohms on both. I believe i have short circuit in windings and need motor replacement. Sound right? Not sure why replacement control electronics gives different error code.

When I start my dryer it sometimes starts slow as if it is to heavy to turn the basket, it also hums a bit while it’s trying to turn.
