This evaporator fan motor is located in the back of the freezer, and circulates air over the refrigerator coils. These coils will convert the heat into cool air, which is then circulated. The thermistor snaps on to the top portion of the evaporator. The thermistor sends the evaporator temperature signals to the main control board. The thermistor must be replaced when replacing the evaporator fan.

Loud high pitch whining noise behind freezer
Ref. still worked but had this loud high pitch whining noise coming from inside freezer for a few months. It's probably a bad bearing or motor.
1) Remove all shelves and ice dispencer 2) Remove (x2 screws / a green wire that's clipped on) and the evap cover 3) Remove (x3 screws) cover motor/solenoid and unplug harness 3) Remove (x2 screws) icemaker and unplug harness 4) Remove/Loosen (x2 screws bottom / x2 screws top) Duct air freezer 5) Remove (x2 screws) Orifice evap fan and unplug harness note: will need to remove right screw to get green ground wire off. And be careful on to damage the gasket. 6) Once Orifice out of refrig, disassemble. 7) Main thing to replace is the Motor DC Evap fan, and maybe CapDust, BumperLid, GrommetEvpFan. 8) now just go in reverse order... That's it . . . wasn't too hard and NO MORE whining!!! Save at least a couple of hundred by not having a prof. come out and do it. Easy enough for most DIY person.
Fan was noisy and finally quit. Top of freezer was 50, bottom of freezer was freezing.
First I removed the top shelf, ice drawer and second shelf. Next, I used a 1/4" socket and removed the three screws holding the ice maker lower unit, unpluged and removed from unit. I removed the light cover revealing two screws. I then removed the plastic unit holding the fan. I unpluged all plugs and uncliped the white sensor from the back coils. Once the fan was out, I replaced it with the new one by unbolting the fan bracket and putting the new one in place. I clipped the new sensor in place and replaced all the parts in reverse order. I saved $200 in repair costs thanks to PartSelect.com.

Refrigerator was noisy when running. The noise increased with time and got so loud it hurt your ears with a high pitch sound.
Empy all the food from the freezer and remove the ice container and the lower ice maker section with a 1/4 inch nut driver, unplug the unit and set aside. Remove all shelving and set aside. Remove light cover and unscrew the bulb and remove. Remove cover/with light fixture by removing the necessary screws with the nut driver. The cover has the fan assembly attached; unplug and remove fan assembly, remove the thermistor from coil attached with a clip. Reassemble in the reverse procedure.

Whinng noise inside the freezer
Got the part from you and I might add it came in about 3 days maybe 2 (wow).Got on the internet on how to utube and the sight had a video on how to that was awesome. So with you clear intruction on the part number and speedy service the whinng noise is a thing of the past.

Freezer is functioning properly, fridge is not cooling. Took back plate of and fan was running. Unplugged to clean coils, plugged back in and fan will not run. Is there a delay or is fan bad?

I'm looking to replace the evaporator fan on this model. However, when i read through the comments on your website, it looks like there's a fair bit of electrical wire splicing involved, make the job a bit more difficult, especially since the colors of the wires don't always seem to match up. Would you face the same problem if you replace the thermistor along with the fan? Any suggestions on making the job easier? Thanks.

Hello Steve, thank you for your question. If the motor for your unit included the thermistor it might be a bit of an easier repair. However, the Evaporator Fan With Thermistor WR60X10074 is not compatible with your unit. You will have to replace the current motor with Evaporator Fan Motor
