Hinge Arm Link Specifications
The hinge link on your dishwasher connects the spring to the dishwasher door hinge. If the hinge link becomes cracked or damaged, you may not be able to shut or lock your dishwasher door properly. In this case, you will need to replace the hinge link. Pull out your dishwasher to inspect the hinge and spring, if the link is broken, it may be disconnected and on the ground already. If not, you can remove the hinge arm link by simply disconnecting it from the hinge and spring, then replacing it with the new part. The hinge arm link is a small piece of white plastic about an inch and a half long. It is sold individually, and is an OEM part from the manufacturer.

plastic hinge arm link broke causing door to flop open
First I had to unscrew screws under the counter then pulled built in dishwasher out from under the counter, attached hing arm link to right side bracket on door, and the other end I attatched to a spring at the back of the unit. Thats it! and pushed the dishwasher back into place. All back to normal....by the way Im a 67 yr old great grandmother...

The door dropped all the way down
The repair itself was simple. I replaced the broken plastic pulley and the cable attached to the door and spring because one end was bent. I also had to remove the fitting that held the pulley in place. In order to access the spring, I had to pull the dishwasher way out and that required disconnecting the water supply, the drain tube, and the electrical wiring! Then I had to reconnect everything. So although the repair took less than 30 minutes, the rest of the work took a couple hours.

Door flopping down hard
I removed the anchor screws at the top of the dishwasher, and the screws holding the bottom kickplate in place. I pulled out the dishwasher 8-10 inches to expose the cables where the plastic hinge arm links are installed.
On mine, there is a steel cable with a hook crimped on the end. The hinge arm link doesn't slide out of this crimped hook easily as-is, the opening is too small. I removed the old link pieces by breaking them, but I couldn't get the new hinge arm links installed without filing the opening of the hook to accept them more easily.
The demo installation video doesn't show this spring-cable-hook-hinge link configuration, so it was a little more involved than I expected. I would have packed my metal file if I had known this would be an issue. I replaced both sides while I was in there, and the remaining good one was pretty brittle. I was glad I took the time to do both. I had to file both sides to install the new links.
The dishrack rollers were easy to install.
The rack slide end caps from the factory were difficult to remove and reinstall without some pliers and elbow grease. The replacement part was much easier to install.

Door had no resistance/no balance/would fall open
First, remove the bottom front covers (two parts four screws). Second, remove the two screws at the top that secure the dishwasher to the counter. Third, gently pull away the dishwasher from underneath the counter just far enough to see and be able to remove the door spring(s) - one on each side. Fourth, remove the existing hinge arm link(s) if not already broken off, replace with the new one(s). Note that the door hinge goes on the door (front) side of the spring and the other side fits into a groove on the door arm - the other end of the spring attaches to one of the 3 available holes on the frame at the bottom. It would be a good idea to replace the hinge arm links on both sides even if only one is broken. Make sure that the door has the right tension (each spring can be hooked in 1 of 3 holes to adjust the tension). Then gently push the dishwasher back under the counter. Finally, replace the screws under the counter and replace the covers on the bottom front. All of this should take no more than 15-20 minutes. This was an easy job!

The door is not shutting all the way. Also it doesn't lay flat when door is opened i was told the spring was bad and needed to be replaced i have had this dishwasher a long time with no problems ever . Does that sound like the correct diagnosis? Thank you
For model number gsd3800gcc
Hi Judy,
Thank you for your question. If your dishwasher door is not shutting correctly, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. You will need to check hinges, the springs and the hinge arm links. We hope this helps! Good luck with the repair!
