18 year old gas range, just replaced oven igniter, and tried repairing burner igniter
Everything went great until I tried to open the stove top which is held in place by 12 screws. NEVER Try To Remove those screws no matter what, they are rusted in place. I removed 5 of 12 imagining I could loosen and remove the rest. That proved impossible, they rust in place and a week of WD40 and vibration made no difference, I had to replace the stove. Once you get involved the screws you ruin also hold the burners in place, so once loosened the burners are dangerous, and now you can't repair them. I got overconfident by the success I had replacing the oven igniter and the 5 of 12 screws I removed easily. Never try and open the top of a stove fastened down in this design. Learn to light the burners by hand,
The oven floor had rusted through in many places, so I bought the replacement, it took a few minutes to replace, the drip pans had rusted, so I bought new ones that require no tools to swap out. I felt bad about junking the old stove, it was a costly a tragic lesson I learned. Don't make the mistakes I did.
