This microwave waveguide cover is a protective mica panel that shields the internal components of the microwave—especially the magnetron—from moisture, grease, and food splatter during cooking. It helps prevent sparking and keeps the appliance operating safely and efficiently while still allowing microwaves to pass through to heat food. Made from heat-resistant mica material, it should be replaced if it becomes burned, cracked, or stained. Installation is simple and usually involves sliding the old cover out and securing the new one in place to restore safe operation.

My wife ran the microwave empty, and the cover sparked cracked and has a burn mark. When you run the microwave with food in the cover still sparks. I removed the cover and it works fine. Have now ordered a replacement cover and she does not trust the microwave and thinks the house will burn down. Please respond to calm her nerves that replacing the cover fixes it
For model number PLMZ209GCA
Hi Eric, Thank you for contacting PartSelect. When the microwaved sparked it may have damaged or a defect in the cover, once this happens the microwave can continue to spark until the cover is replaced. Replacing the cover will fix the issue.Hope this helps!

The wave guard on my microwave was damaged. I removed it and it seemed to be glued on. Will i have to glue the replacement back on. And if so, what kind of glue do i use?
For model number FGMO205KBC
Hi Jay, thank you for your question. There should not be any glue on this part from what I am seeing. Wave guide covers usually bend and then slip into grooves on the wall. Once you push it flat it locks into place. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

My wife tried to protect the bottom of the over with foil. Once heated the foil adhered directly to the bottom plate. Then my daughter vacuumed the oven using the vacuum steel sleeve to scrape and dislodge tiny pieces of foil. We tried the remedies we found on line to remove the foil remnants to no avail. We would like to replace the bottom as it is horribly scarred. Is this possible? What is the name and cost of this oven piece?

Is the wave cover necessary to safely operate my microwave
Hello Cathy, Thank you for the question. Yes, the Wave Guide Cover is necessary. It is a fair hazard not to have it installed. Hope this helps!

No heat with loud noise
For model number EI24MO45IBC
Hello Ronald, thank you for getting in touch. A microwave with no heat and a loud noise often points to a failed magnetron, part number PS12728994. The magnetron is the component that generates the microwaves, and it can become noisy as it starts to fail. We hope this helps.
My microwave is shooting sparks From the cover inside on the right beside the light. This is the second microwave that has done this to me. We replaced the first one. I’ve had this one probably two years and it’s starting to do the same thing.

Hi Carolyn, thank you for contacting PartSelect. When the microwaved sparked it may have damaged or a defect in the cover, once this happens the microwave can continue to spark until the cover is replaced. Replacing the waveguide cover, part number PS1993100, will fix the issue. Wipe down the area behind the cover and ensure there is no chipped paint or rust. Wipe down the interior weekly, focusing on the right-hand side cover. Hope this helps!
