Water dispenser actuator snapped in half
Unplugged refrigerator. Pull forward on tray at bottom of water & ice dispenser to remove it. Remove three screws. Push up and then pull out to remove black cover around dispensers. Be careful not to break ribbon cable. Pulled ribbon cable from green circuit card on the cover. Set the cover aside. Removed green circuit card from refigerator (six small screws). Had to unplug two wires to do this. Set this aside. Make sure you remember which connector each wire goes in for re-assembly. I ended up removing the entire assembly, it was easier to work on. There were a couple more screws to remove and then you can carefully pull the entire assembly down and toward you to remove it. This meant removing the water supply line from the dispenser. Pushed up on the water supply line with needle nose pliers to "unstick" it and make it easier to pull out. Used needle nose pliers to unplug wires from broken actuator from the circuit card. Make sure to unplug the correct one. Unscrewed the two screws that held the metal plates thet held the actuator in place. Cut the wires to make it easier to remove the broken actuator and pull the wires through Installed the new actuator and screws. Routed the wire through and plugged it in to the circuit card. Now the hardest part, and I would not have figured it out without a tip from this website. There was no slack in the water line and it was impossible to push the end of it back into the hole in the dispenser assembly. Open the refrigerator doors and remove the black cover at the bottom. The water line goes up through the freezer door from the bottom. It was easy to push an inch or two of slack up through the door. Then I could grab the water line and insert it in the hole in the dispenser. Re-connect the wires that were disconnected and replace the assembly in the freezer door. You can pull slack in the water supply line back down from the bottom if needed. Replace the screws that hold the dispenser assembly in place. Replace the circuit card. Then I had to push the ribbon cable back into the slot in the circuit card in the cover. I had to remove the circuit card from the cover to get at the slot. Push the cable into the slot and re-install the circuit card in the cover. I needed to have my son help me here as a second set of hands was needed, the ribbon cable is short. Replace the cover, be careful not to damage the ribbon cable. Install the three screws and snap the boittom tray back in place. Re-install the black cover at the bottom. Works great.

Water actuator snapped in half
First unplug the refrigerator.
Removed the bottom black tray. A quick firm tug is all that is needed.
Removed the 3 phillips head screws.
Pulled out and up being careful not to break the black plastic clips at the top of the external dispensing unit.
Removed the red and black wire clip to the water actuator.
Unscrewed the two phillips head screws with metal plates holding the broken actuator.
Replace the old actuator with the new actuator and reverse the process until complete.
TIP: If you can help it, do not remove the waterline. The space is tight and reinstallation of the waterline is difficult, I know I removed it. It toke and additional frustrating minutes to reconnect the line in a very tight spot.

Broken water actuater
I followed the other instruction listed.
1. Took off the outer cover and water drip tray. 2. Took off the outer circuit board (DID NOT DISCONNECT it) 3. Disconnected the black paddle holder, but DID NOT DISCONNECT the water tube. 4. As I did not disconnect the water tube I had to very slightly east it PARTIALLY out. 5. There are two screws that hold the sides of the paddle legs in. To rempve these screws I used a phillips screwdriver. 6. After removing these two screws you can remove the broken water actuator. 7. There is a small plastic aligning tip on the left hand side wher the metal covers sit on the actuator fiengers. NOTE THIS NEEDS TO BE REMOVED as I could not get the left actuator fienger to pop over it. I removed it with a needle nose pliers. After removing the tip the actuator poped right into its slot. 8. You cannot hold the two screws and the covers so I used a little piece of chewing gum to hold the cover to the screw and the screw to the screwdriver. It worked great. 9. Then I put the unit back together in reverse order... it functioned better than before.

The plastic lever of the "in door" water despenser broke off
The tray at the bottome of the "in door" unit pulls straight out. I then removed the 3 screws at the bottom, shifted the cover upwards...and removed it from the fridge door. You then have to remove the green circuit board to get at the actuator. The tricky part is the water line feed...there's not much slack at all and it's hard to get at. I ended up removing the entire assembly to put the new actuator on. When it came time to reassemble...I disconnected the 4 wire connectors (two brown, an orange, and I forget the other) so I could have enough room for my fingers to grab the water line and insert it back. The connectors were easy to reconnet w/ needle nose plyers. (make sure you diagram them before you remove...so they can be reattached correctly). Putting it back together was pretty easy. It all works...lights, buttons, etc. so I must have done it right.

I had had a repairman look at the problem, and he estimated the cost of the repair to be $225 to $500. Needless to say I was quite happy that I was able to do it myself for $85.
I found that getting the water/ice dispenser back in place was the hardest part because the water hose is so short. I finally threaded a stiff wire up into the hose and guided it through the dispenser opening. The rest was pretty much routine.
Pulled the drip tray out of the ice/water dispenser. Removed 3 screws, pulled up the beauty ring. Removed 3 more screws, pulled out the circuit board, and plastic plate that it is installed in. Removed screws that hold the actuator in place. Unplugged and removed broken actuator, installed new actuator, installed hold down screws. Plugged in actuator. Installed beauty and other parts in reverse of removal. Would probably recommend removing door handle on the dispenser side. Would make installing one of the screws much easier. But you have to remove 2 small hex screws to remove handle.

The actuator arm broke on the unit and it had to be replaced
The actuator arm was the only part that was a little difficult. The drip tray and the kick plate went on very easily. First, we went online to your schematic on the unit. This showed how it was assembled and how it came apart. We then terminated the power to the refrigerator, and removed the drip tray which exposed two screws holding in the face plate for the ice/water on the door of the refrigerator. We then removed three screws from the control panel and pulled it forward. This exposed the actuator and two more screws that held it into place. We removed them and unplugged the small plug giving power to the actuator. We then installed the new part and replaced all the screws that had been removed. We reassembled the face plate and the screws there and then snapped in the drip tray. When we turned on the power everything worked fine.
unplugged the refrigerator after pulling it away from the wall. Removed the water tray fairly easily. I read from other experiences about the water tube, i was prepared. I clamp a surgical clamp to the tube before removing the dispenser module. Look at the water dispenser you will see a white tube protruding, clamp it to prevent it from backing out. I removed three screws and the ice/water dispenser removal was a cinch. Two screws were removed and the actuator snapped out and new one installed. Be careful of the panel power strip, if it comes out it can be easily reinserted. Just make sure you get it in correctly. The fitting holding the strip will slide down slightly , enough to insert the power strip and push it back in. 30-45 mins only snag was not paying attention to the orientation of the power strip. If I had removed it at first would have made the job simplier. in other words i installed the strip backwards and when powering up had no display, removed panel reversed the strip and all is well. Even with this mishap, 30-45 min was consumed. Have fun DIYER's

The water dispense lever snapped..replacement needed
It wasn't clear how to disassemble the Ice / Water dispensing unit to get at the lever for replacement BUT the website had a great exploded parts view of the door and assembly so I was able to print that and from the diagrams you can easily work out how to pull it apart.. A bit fiddly and you need to power down the Fridge as there's 120v behind this panel (tip : dont drag out a heavy fridge, flip the breaker at the main panel to isolate the power) .
All fixed for $50 , compared to having to call out some guy who'd charge me $100 plus parts !! great deal ! Thanks !

Water dispenser lever snapped
Turn of power at the circuit breaker. Remove the water tray by pulling straight towards you. Remove the three screws at the bottom of the control panel. Have someone hold the control panel while you remove the six small screws that retain the circuit board. Gently ease the circuit panel away from the plastic frame and disconnect the six wire connector on the left hand end, followed by the two light connectors with black & red wires, then remove the four wires with spade connectors from the microswitches - noting where each goes. The control panel & circuit board can then be set aside. Remove the three screws that retain the interior plastic frame. The plastic frame can then be eased forward taking care not to pull out the water pipe. This allows access to the screws that hold the actuators, which should both be removed. Unhook the spring & remove the broken actuator. Feed the new actuator wire up from the bottom of the frame and insert the left hand pivot first and twist gently to snap the right hand pivot into its recess. Replace the retaining plates & screws. Don't forget to the hook the actuator spring into its clip. Test the operation and ease the plastic frame back into position and attach with the screws. Re-connect and reassemble the circuit board and front panel in the reverse order. Power on and enjoy a glass of fresh cold water! You may need to press the reset button on the front panel to reset the lights in the actuators.

How do you get the ribbon cable to stay in place?

My Kenmore refrigerator stopped dispensing water after simply sliding the unit out to complete painting the wall. I checked all the lines for kinks, none detected, I can remove the waterline at the bottom of the front panel and have water flow when the door actuator is depressed however, no water appears to be traveling up the waterline to the door?

Thank you for your question. If your refrigerator is not dispensing water, there are some parts that you will need to check to see which one is causing the issue. Not getting any water to ice maker or door, purchased water dispenser actuator however this is not the problem, maybe a pump?

We would recommend checking the following parts to fix your issue: water inlet valve, water tubes (make sure they are not cracked or frozen), water filter, micro switch, and the dispenser power board. Water leaks from the dispenser all the time and runs down the front of the frig

When i went to put ribbon back, it wouldn't go back in board so i took off the 4 screws and was able to put ribbon cord back in. Reassembled and plugged back in... 3 beeps and none of controls work. what did i do wrong?
