The ice maker only dispenses crushed ice regardless of the setting. The ice container drawer will not open so we can't see what the problem is. Can we break the plastic housing to get into the ice container and then buy parts to fix it? Thanks
For model number G16SDRXXY04
Hi Karen,
Thank you for your question. When switching form crushed to cubed ice, it is normal to get crushed ice the first couple of times you use the dispenser. When cubed ice is selected, dispensing cubes requires energizing a lever behind the ice bucket to open a flap and allow whole cubes to come out. If an ice cube gets behind the ice bucket, this can prevent the lever from working. You would need to remove the ice bucket to see if there is any ice trapped behind the bucket. IIf there are no ice cubes behind the ice bucket, you will need to test the dispenser without the bucket to see if ice will dispense. Shut the door to the refrigerator as you normally would and press ice dispenser as you normally would. If you hear a snapping noise, then the dispenser is working correctly. Place the ice bucket back in the refrigerator and select the cubed ice option. If there is no cubed ice, then there may be an ice build up in the bucket. If you do not hear a snap you will need to inspect the dispenser to see what is happening. You should not have to break the plastic housing to remove the ice container. There is a video on our website that you can reference on how to install/remove the ice container. The refrigerator and the ice container may not show exactly like the ones you have, but it will give you a general idea on how to install the part. You will find the video under part number PS11701245. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Hello George, Thank you for the question. I suggest removing the Ice Bucket from the appliance and check for damage to the bucket. Sounds like drum in the bucket may have become damaged or out of place. Hope this helps!

Should my ice maker bin have a large molded piece of Styrofoam inside? Just took it apart because the refrigerator has a bad chemical smell and it seems to be coming from the ice maker. Any insight into this odor?
For model number GI6SARXXF01
Hello Terry, Thank you for the question. There is Styrofoam inside the front of the bin. It is used for insulation. There is a Ice Maker cleaner you can buy to clean them. Hope this helps!

When the ice dispenser button is pushed, nothing happens. The water side works perfectly. The ice side has been giving us problems for awhile, having to be pushed at just the correct spot to dispense ice. Finally, it has stopped working altogether-no sound when pushing.

It is not dispensing ice. I took out ice bucket and turn on the motor and I can not stop it with my hand. Doesn't appear to have anything broke on auger assembly.

Hello David, Thank you for the question. If the motor does not turn, it normally indicates it is defective and will need to be replaced. We hope this helps!
