I called the repairman and he troubleshot the problem and told me that he could order the part or that I could. He quickly explained what to do. I ordered the part it came in with 2 days during that time I looked up on how to remove and replace the part on the website. The website stated it took around 15 minutes. That is all it took. I had to use a screw driver to remove two screws and seperate the connection. I reconnected the wiring per instructions on the website reversed the process and it was done within 15 minutes. I save a lot of money and time away from work. This is a grest site to get what you need to fix your appliances. Unsnap damper louver cover using only your fingernails at bottom. Remove two phillips screws from damper cover. Remove styrofoam molded insulation. Squeeze electrical connector to release latch; unplug connector. Release latches on both sides of damper control while gently pulling on damper control unit to remove it. Install new unit by doing above steps in reverse. Damper door may move when electrics connected; keep fingers clear.
Amana would not honor our extended warranty that we paid $65 for, saying that noises are not covered. Im glad that Partselect supplied the part quick and and a great price. The frig is quiet for the first time in 2 years!

Remove cover inside frig at rearwall top with screw driver. Remove phillips screws holding unit in place. Unclip connectors ,and replace in reverse order.

Inside the food section above the top shelf behind the light in the back, remove the lid from the cover in lifting from the lower edge no tools necessary here. Remove two screws with Phillips screw driver remove entire housing inclusive Styrofoam insert. Unplug damper Control Unit. Remove two screws and remove damper control unit and replace in reverse order. Finally that refrigerator is quiet, I should have done this long time ago. Unbelievable this is the second part I have to replace on this expensive refrigerator.

one was the refrig wasn't holding temperature properly, sometimes too cold, sometimes too warm. Also the cold water dispenser didn't work at all. First, IMPORTANT! Check to see if there are different parts for your 'series' of model. I made the mistake of missing this and received the wrong parts the first time as Parts Select doesn't highlight this! It would be nice if their website checked to see if different parts are available for your model and ask if you checked this important fact. They were very good to replace the wrong part with the right one and refund the amount of the returned part. On my model, the first two digits of the serial number denotes the series number, which means you may need a 'series' specific model part. After getting the correct parts, replacing the damper control solved the temperature control issues and the refrige is actually quieter now (It used to make sounds as the damper opened or closed). My unit used a 'series 10' version and there was no need to purchase the harness, as I just used the old one. Replacing the dual water valve solved the issue with my water dispenser not working. I'm good with hand tools so both of these were easy for me using just basic tools.

Easy fix, it's right in the back of the fridge under a cover that just clips in, a piece of foam, and two screws. The hardest part is getting the clips free without breaking them. After replacement it's silent instead of making a grinding noise regularly.

Pop off vent cover remove 2 screws removed cover housing and foam. Removed damper by unclipping tabs on left and right side of control lift up and out. Unplugged power wires reinstalled in reverse order.

Failure detected as Damper Control at upper rear of compartment would continuously open/close, would never stay open or closed. Sometimes the main board would turn it off (maybe a low thermistor limit?), but it would stick open a bit, and keeping letting freezer air into fridge. Could have potentially been control board, but as it turns out after disassembly of the defective damper, the internal microswitch was stuck in the closed position so it wouldn't shut off the motor. Easy fix by gently pulling the cover off the damper control, pull out Styrofoam encasement, then a phillips to remove the damper assembly. Gently push tabs to release wire connectors. Reverse the process and you're done! If I really wanted to go on the cheap, I could have just changed the microswitch, but that looked like a shaky maneuver at best. This site saved me on this one, so happy to share my experience with this Maytag and its nasty habit of freezing my milk and eggs!! :)

Unsnapped and pulled off small cover exsposing two phillips head screws. I removed larger cover and styrofoam insert fully exsposing the damper unit. i unplugged same and with a 1/2 inch wood chisel was able to release the "snaps" holding the old unit in place. Simply reverse procedure to install new unit.

First off, I learned from YTube how to go about figuring out what might be wrong & how to fix it. I watched numerous videos and narrowed it down to the damper as the part to be replaced. I learned how to use the Jazz Board in the fridge to test components & verified the damper wasn't getting signal to open/close. I removed the old damper & put in the new one following what I had seen on the videos. I found a video that had the same type of damper assembly as my fridge & used it to show me how to remove & replace the damper. This was the 2nd part I had to replace to get my fridge up & working. I spent a total of 224.00 on parts and now the fridge is quieter than it's been in years. Finally, if a 66 year old woman can do this, so can you.
