Our refrigerator, about one year old, started making an occasional rattling noise. We have been unable to locate the source. It also does not seem related to opening and closing the door or anything else (like something on a shelf, loose shelf, etc.) The rattle lasts about 5 seconds and stops.
For model number WRF535SWHZ07
Hi Kerry, thank you for the question. According to our research, the rattling sound may be coming from the compressor, part number PS16620272. The internal components of the compressor can wear out over time, generating more noise than normal. When the refrigerator compressor first starts up, there may be a louder humming noise. It should quiet down after it runs for a few minutes. If the compressor is not faulty, you may need to check the water inlet valve, part number PS16543584. If the refrigerator is noisy or loud, particularly when the ice maker is filling, the water inlet valve might be at fault. The water inlet valve is an electrically controlled valve that opens to supply water to the refrigerator dispenser and icemaker. Over time, mineral deposits can accumulate inside the valve and restrict the water flow. If there is no issue with the water inlet valve, you may need to check the condenser fan motor, part number PS12741612, and the evaporator fan motor, part number PS11748697. We hope this helps!
What is the purpose of the Air Damper Assembly and what kind of noises could it make if there is a problem with the assembly.
For model number WRF535SWHZ07
Hi Kerry, thank you for reaching out. The air damper assembly, part number PS11756642, channels and controls the cold airflow from the freezer compartment into the refrigerator compartment. As a moving part in your refrigerator, it can become worn or even dirty over time. This can cause a groaning, creaking, or squealing noise every time the damper opens and closes, which can often be. We hope this information is useful!

Removed the fruit & veggie drawers & the deli (pantry) drawer. Took out the 3 screws, removed the attached parts, put them on the replacement part, reattached it and put the drawers back in.
Here's the part I want to share: PartSelect had a expanded diagram showing the correct part and sufficiently detailed to figure out the repair before the part arrived. That's why I ordered from them. Secondly, I ordered the part Thursday morning--and the thing was sitting on my porch when I came back in from my evening out Saturday--2 days later!!!
Remove food off of lower shelf, remove the two produce drawers, remove large lower drawer, remove glass shelf, remove three screws holding end cap in place. Once end cap was removed the drawer track could be removed and placed on new end cap. Installation of new end cap took less than 5 minutes. Most of the time spent was removing/replacing food and cleaning the shelf/bins. PartSelect was awesome BTW!
Remove Crisper drawers from Bottom Shelf. Remove glass from the top of Bottom Shelf. Drop new Crisper frame center rail into slots on the top of the Bottom Shelf shelf. Replace glass onto the top of the Bottom Shelf. Slide drawers between left and right guides and the Crisper frame center rail.
Total repair time less than one minute. No tools required.
