I bought my refrigerator through lowes in january. This is the 2nd time ive had problems with the ice maker. My ice maker and water on the fridge isn't working. The water just drips if you try to get some out and the ice maker isn't making any ice.

Hello Lynn, thank you for your question. Water may not be reaching the ice maker due to a frozen line, clogged filter, or a closed water inlet valve. First check the water lines to make sure they are not frozen. If they are frozen, you can defrost them with a hair dryer or by unplugging the refrigerator. Make sure that the filter is in place, and if it has not been changed recently, replace it with a new one. Part number PS3412266. If the filter is good and the lines are not frozen, you can test your water inlet valve with a multimeter. Disconnect the water supply line connected to the valve, and disconnect the wires from the terminals located on the solenoid coils. Set the multimeter to the lowest Ohms of resistance, and make sure the meter is calibrated properly. Place a probe on one of the terminals, and place the other probe on the other terminal. Do this for each solenoid coil. If the meter measures infinite Ohms of resistance– the display on a digital meter does not change much or the needle on an analog meter does not move– the valve has no continuity and needs to be replaced. Part number PS7784018. We hope this helps.

Sitting in the living room and noticed that there were flames coming from underneath my refrigerator a little black box that was connected to the power cord, could this be the Run capacitor, if so why?
For model number LFSS2612TP5
Hi Timothy,
Thank you for your question. The run capacitor would be plugged into the compressor. Are you referring to the compressor? If you could resubmit your question with this information, we would be happy to help you. We look forward to hearing from you!

In my specific appliance the water valve is located in the bottom right hand corner looking at it from the back. To get to it I remove the thin layer of cardboard the covers the back of the fridge. I then proceeded to disconnect the 1/4" copper tubing which is the water feed coming out of the wall. Then I removed the screws that hold the valve assembly in place. I took the water valve out and removed the electrical connections as well as the plastic tubing which feed the water dispenser and the ice maker. To install the new water valve it was just a matter of reversing steps.
Even though my wife said that our icemaker broke, there was actually nothing wrong with it. It was the valve that let water flow in during the 'harvest' cycle. A real easy way to test the icemaker without voltage and current measurements, is to fill the tray by hand with a little cup of water; wait till the water freezes and see if the maker dumped the ice into the bin.
