My Jenn-Air oven element just made an arc, scared me and my wife because there was a bright light in the oven but then stopped after we turned the oven off. It had melted itself and made a defect and stopped working so i replaced the element and now it works fine except it now does not turn off when i set the temperature for bake. I replaced the temperature sensor and it still does the same thing. When it goes low, it knows to turn on but when it hits the target temperature it won't turn off. My suspicion is there is a defective switch that doesn't shut off when it hits the target temperature and that was the original problem and was what actually caused the element to self-destruct. What do you think? Do i need a new control board and if so can you direct me to such?

Hello and thank you for writing.
It certainly sounds like it could be a faulty high limit switch PS11744548 (rather than a control board) you should check the part(s) for signs of damage or test with a multimeter, and replace the part(s) as needed. We hope this helps. Please contact us anytime if you require further assistance.
Hi,
Whoever answered my question--see below, either did not read the explanation correctly and led me astray:--

unfortunately i spent $80 dollars and a lot of time. when i inspected the high limit switch, i realized this was not the primary thermostat control and was a secondary fire prevention safety shut off. i then looked up the definiition.

the high limit switch kills the power to the unit because if it gets hot enough to open, there is usually a stuck relay or shorted harness bypassing a thermostat. this is a fire preventative measure. it will kill the entire units' ability to operate.

after $80 dollars and a lot of time spent, i am still in the same boat. i believe there is a thermostat control in the control panel that is faulty. that was my original thought as you can see. can you help me?

Hello Michael,
Thank you for your question. You are correct that there is usually a thermostat that connects the control board and the elements that controls the temperature of the oven, however for your model there isn't a thermostat that is separate, the connection is just between the control board under part PS11745984 for your model and the element so we suggest that the control board would need to be tested to see if its defective. We hope this helps.
Removed the oven door by opening slightly, then pic door up to remove. Remove 2 screws holding oven sensor in place, gently pull on sensor to remove, had to remove about 8 inches to get at plastic connector. Unplug connector, had to use an adapter cable supplied with the PartSelect kit to install new sensor, push cable back into opening, reinstall 2 screws. The oven works fine! Note that due to thermal lag the temperature overshoots to 370 degrees and undershoots to 340 degrees, this appears to be normal oven operation. Putting door back in place was easy.
I numbered every part. ex: 1 L., for first part removed left side. I used a magic marker to circle the holes and wrote the number of screws used on the part, set the srews in a separete place, so that I new where these screws went to. The cleanup was pretty time consuming, but I was able to keep my stove, when every repairman I called to fix my stove told me I was better off buying a new stove. ($600.00 stove 2 years old)Please Note: The insulation blanket needed for the entire stove is two pieces, the sides and top are one part # and the bottom and back, are another part #. I did not know this. I just purchased the top and sides. I got lucky, the back and bottom were still in good shape. So I guess I should have read the description of the part more carefully to see what it covers, before I ordered it. It took two people two hours to do the work, it was really nice to have an extra set of eyes, to remember what direction pieces of metal from the stove went. I would do it all over in a heart beat instead of buying a new stove.
