Just started smoking, oil is right up there.

Hi David, thank you for your inquiry. Based on our research, your lawn mower's carburetor regulates the ratio of gasoline to air mixture. If the carburetor is not getting enough air, the mixture has a higher percentage of gasoline, which can create black exhaust smoke. It is most likely that a dirty or clogged air filter, part number PS9137470, is preventing sufficient airflow into the carburetor. If this part is faulty, you may need to replace it.
