Impeller runs but large auger does not. All shear pins are in place. Shaft from the impeller is turning, Any Idea what is the problem??
For model number 24788970
Hi Dale, thank you for getting in touch. If your impeller will spin but the augers will not, and you have confirmed that all shear pins are in place, there is likely a problem with the gearbox that is stopping it from turning. The teeth on the gears inside of the gearbox can sometimes bend, break or become worn which causes them to slip or lose their grip. There is also a small key that rotates the shaft that sits inside the gear. If this key breaks or slips out of place, the spinning of the gears will no longer force the augers to turn. If you believe your gearbox is damaged, remove it from its housing and open it to expose the gears. Any damaged or missing keys will need to be replaced. If the gearbox is damaged beyond repair, a new auger gearbox assembly, part number PS11813273 can be installed with relative ease. We hope this helps!

With WD-40 or equivalent, spray the four nuts on the underside of the snow blower housing that hold the shave plate to the housing. Also spray the two bolts that hold the shave plate to the side of the housing. Let sit for a few minutes and using a 1/2" box end wrench remove the four nuts on the bottom of the housing. If necessary, apply heat with a torch to loosen. Using a 9/16" box end wrench, remove the nuts on the sides (these also hold the adjustable skid feet). It is recommended that the bottom bolts and nuts be replaced with 5/16-18 X 3/4" long zinc plated carriage bolts using zinc plated washers and ny-lock nuts. It is also recommended that all of th screw threads be coated with an anti- seize lubricant so disassembly at a later date will be easy.
I ordered a replacement chute rotation gearbox. The small metal ball on the end of the cable (on the replacement part) was attached about 1/8" too long and made it so that there was too much play in the trigger that operates it. Thus, the replacement part did not work. I called customer service for directions about returning the part. They said it must have been defective. I'm still waiting for instructions about returning it for a refund. The whole thing was a bust. I ended up disassembling the old gearbox and fixing it, instead of replacing it (which would have been my preference). The replacement part did not work at all!
