Recently purchased a home with this appliance. Lower cover was loose and upon inspection there was no sound dampener behind it. Is it necessary and how does it attache?

Hi Larry,
Thank you for your question. The sound barrier is not really necessary, but if you are looking to reduce the noise from the dishwasher then this is part you will need to order. Before you begin any repair please turn the circuit breaker off. Also make sure the water is turned off going to the dishwasher. You will need a quarter inch nut driver for the installation. You will need to wear gloves to protect your hands as the parts are sharp. Using the quarter inch nut driver, remove the 2 screws securing the kickplate to the dishwasher. Set the screws and kickplate aside. There is a metal brace behind the kickplate, remove the 2 screws securing it to the dishwasher. Set the brace aside and put away for future use. Place the sound shield or damper against the dishwasher tub legs. Be sure the tabs on the left and right side of the panel fit into the cutouts on the tub's legs. Secure the panel with the 2 screws that secured the metal brace. Insert the screws through the lower set of holes in the sound shield or damper and tighten the screws. Reinstall the kickplate and secure it with the screws.
