Lower Spray Arm - Shield Included Specifications

This spray arm is located on the lower half of your dishwasher. Water is forced through this spray arm by the unit's pump and motor assembly. The force of the water propels the spray arms, spraying water and detergent onto the dishes on the dishrack.

Wash Quality Was Getting Bad
The upper arm was held in by a torx screw. The shoulder on the screw held the arm in place. Once removed I simply swapped parts and installed screw. The lower arm was held on by a plastic nut with knurled edges that you can remove by hand. The arm simply lifted off and I swapped arms again. The rollers are held on by a curled plastic lock that grips the wire basket.

Dishwasher wasn't cleaning well, especially top rack
I wanted to get the dishwasher cleaning better and thought that maybe the accumulator needed to be replaced. I figured that I'd swap out all the spray arms as well, just for good measure.

I needed Torx screwdrivers (T15 and T20, I think - not 100% sure on that) and patience because there's really quite a lot of screws to get the accumulator out. Finally got to it and it didn't look damaged, but replaced it anyway.

The spray arms are easy - they just snap in except for the lowest one, that had a plastic nut. I ordered a replacement nut just in case I broke this one (you know how that goes) taking it off. Well, it took pliers, but it came off ok.

In the end, my dishwasher is happy and cleans much better now.

Original part was worn out. It would not turn.
The original piece is 100% plastic (with metal shields only to prevent burning). The bushing of the arm was badly worn out in one side. The arm was no turning properly or at the end no turning at all. I decide to drill the new part in order to fit a brass bushing inside (1/4" ID, 5/16" OD, about 2" long). I expect it will last considerable longer. I would say this is a typical "defective by design" problem.

The dishes in the dishwasher weren't getting clean. I decided it would be cheaper to replace the clogged wash arm myself, before calling a repairman.
First, I removed the screw, then I took off the old wash arm, then I replaced the wash arm, and replaced the screw. Nothing could be easier!

Dishes were coming out dirty... cloudy and white.
I know that I have very hard water, but am reluctant to get a softener. I hope that changing the "guts" of the water delivery to my dishwasher will help...already replaced the filters which helped too... so far, it's a little better.

Installation was a breeze. Took off the upper, middle and lower spray arms. Had to loosen screws in filter assembly to remove old manifold. Popped everything into place... had to scrape mineral deposits off clips that support manifold and upper spray arms.
Easy...

loud grinding noise 1 hr or so into washing
Problem seemed to be the bottom wash arm. Had somehow gotten too close too heat element, bottom of wash arm was melted slightly causing it to rub. I guess when it got heated up toward end of cycle it began rubbing on heating element. Thought it was somthing in chopper at first, but after inspecting twice, could not find the reason for the noise. Replaced drain pump also, same way as others have instructed. Wash arm was even easier. One screw to remove w/ pliers, pop off arm and put new one on. Problem fixed !

Wash arm holes had worn, preventing proper rotation due to limited force of water jets
Took off the small plastic nut -- you can do it with your fingers. If it's too tight, use a pair of pliers.Lift off the old arm, put on the new arm. Very simple. Takes 2 minutes.

Dishwasher Not Cleaning Correctly
Hey I hope this helps someone. . I was quite frustrated with out little dishwasher. It almost seemed that the dishes would come out dirtier than when they went in. Turns out we have hard water and it did a number on the parts of the dishwasher. Luckily, the parts were cheap enough that I thought I would give em a try. Between that and something called "dishwasher magic" I had success! One thing I wished I did differently was that I should have purchased two (2) wash arm retainer clips. . . I re-used an old one but it would have been nice to have all new parts inside. Needless to say, our dishes now are super clean. I have 6 young kids so our dishwasher gets a real workout. I may have to purchase a water softener down the road but for now we'll roll the dice. Hope this helps!

Hi Bob, Thank you for your inquiry. Where there is an issue with water being pumped into the dishwasher, there are some parts that you may have to check out. The most common parts that you will need to look at are the water inlet valves, the float switch kit, the pump and the door handle and latch assembly with switches. To verify which of these parts are causing the issue, you will need to use a multimeter. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
