Replace rack adjusters - wheel were broken

Replacement was pretty easy after figuring out how to unsnap/unlock the old pieces. Tools only used to do a little prying and poking, but really aren't needed. Everything either snaps or slides together. Piece of cake

I took the broken basket adjuster off and then attached the new one. It wasn't too difficult, however some removal instructions and re-install instructions( or just a picture supplied) would have been helpful. This isn't an issue for a mechanically inclined person, but would be a challenge for someone that isn't. Thanks.

Took apart broke piece and disassembled parts. Ordered new main part but used old clips to reassemble. Part arrived swiftly (2 days), put together and works fine. Saved repair bill and house call. Used screwdriver to pry apart main clip that attached adjuster to top of rack. There were 5 clip type pieces in total and analyzed right hand a djuster as model for reassembly.

I took a picture of the old assemblies position. Then I removed one side. It was original and held in place by plastic snaps. We followed the instructions on the first side. The metal wheel assembly and the housing have matching channel & grove so the metal fits into the channel on the housing. We accidentally placed the metal wheel assem bly in the adjustment housing backwards then could not get it out and broke two small plastic tabs getting it back out. Turns out that was not a fatal error. We had a bit of difficulty determining the exact positioning of the actuator in the housing and how the housing fit to the rack. One has to really look hard at the instructions. !!!A YouTube video would be very nice for this!!! Once we had the positioning then the assembly went together very easily. The two screws went in easily with a ratchet nut driver and star bit. (an adapter is provided for those who don't have the star bit). The second side was incredibly easy since I knew exactly how to put it together the second time. First side: 20-25 min. Second side 5 min.

Removed and trashed unnecessary extra "stuff" originally provided in top rack by KitchenAid. Followed installation instructions contained with parts. Pictures were poor but usable after studying them. Thanks to whoever developed the replacement instructions - would have been near-impossible without them. Customer service was efficient , polite, helpful, accurate and more than I could have asked. Thank you all

broken wheel on upper rack slider assembly

The left side took 20 minutes the right side took 3 minutes. The instructions do not describe how to remove the old assembly but rather just assume you have already done it. It takes one minute to see how the six parts fit together and then you just have to begin disassembling the easiest piece. The final cover removal required a flat hea d to pry apart two pieces held together in a pressure fit with round tabs locking them in. I was worried about breaking a piece in case the new parts didn't fit properly and I would have to reinstall the old pieces temporarily but you just have to keep the faith and open it up for final removal. Installing the new parts was simple however it would be nice if the images on the instructions were of better quality. The result was perfect and the kit feels more robust than the original parts. There is nothing here an average person can't do with a screwdriver and a little patience.

Top basket- wheels kept coming off

Removed old tracks. Note instructions do not tell you to remove the back stops one each side.... let alone how. Installing new track is really easy. Place the old lock on the track. Strange they don't arrive with a new lock, it is just a plastic insert and must be cheap. The only tricky part is replacing the rack wheels and height adjuste r. If the instructions and particularly the pictures in these, were better it would all have been a breeze. Really worth the effort though!

Upper Dishrack and tines rusting out

My KitchenAid dishwasher's upper dishrack had several places that were completing rusting out, just leaving the skins of the plastic coating in place. I ordered the upper dishrack - just the dishrack, none of the clips or other items shown in the schematic - and installed it pretty easily. One caution - this is JUST the upper dishrack. If you have two rows of tines that are clipped in and flip-flop back and forth on the left and right wider sides of the rack, you will need to order one or two pieces of part # PS 898500 as well. One of my tine rows was in salvageable shape, so I only needed to order one (in a second order upon discovering I it wasn't included). It wasn't difficult to figure out how the clips could come out and snap back in place. Just be careful, know that these are just plastic items and can break easily.

Old upper rack was rusted out in one too many spots

Just had to transfer all the kit parts from the old rack to the new one.
It was important to leave one side of the kit parts(the wheel and other plastic pieces) on the old one while transferring the other side of the kit parts to the new rack so that I had a visual reference for placement and orientation of the parts on the new rack.

Dish rack adjuster kit W10712394: I am a fully inexperienced and non-mechanical mom who needed her dishwasher during this holiday season! It took me a little longer and seemed a little harder than the description said it would - but not by much. The dishwasher is now better than it was when we bought it. Tip 1 - The original mechanism had no screws. The replacement kit does. The kit comes with a special screw that you will need in order to use a phillips screwdriver. It would have been helpful to know that before I tried to screw the screws in and stripped the first one because none of my screwdrivers fit. 2- Instructions aren't clear and photos are a little distorted (2D rather than 3D) for a novice. I wish I'd known this request for installation instructions was coming before I finished the project so I could have taken pictures. Tip - Take pictures to submit for installation instructions for others to appreciate. Would be nice to have some kind of perk to motivate people to do the work of clarifying instructions and submitting pictures. 3 - The part that locks the sliding mechanism into place is a little tricky. That step in the instructions needs some attention. I don't know how to clarify it further but other than the problem with the screws, this is the part that consumed time that an experienced dishwasher repair person might have breezed through.

I pulled the upper rack out of the dishwasher. I then removed the broken rack clip stop on the right side and reinstalled the new replacement clip. I then put the rack back onto the rollers and voila, the upper rack no longer fell down off of the tracks!! Problem solved and the replacement clip only cost $8.95!!
