This ceramic microwave fuse is just over an inch in length. It is white in the center, and metal on both ends. This is a 20-amp fuse, and is used to power your microwave. If the touch pad on the microwave becomes unresponsive, the microwave produces little to no heat, or the appliance simply does not turn on, it could mean that your fuse is at fault and needs to be replaced. Because this part contains an electrical charge, remember to disconnect power to the microwave unit before you begin this repair.
NOTE: Before you start this repair, ensure that the microwave is unplugged, and the capacitor is discharged. A capacitor stores large amounts of electricity even after your microwave is unplugged.

Microwave completely stopped working
Turned out the issue was easily solved by replacing a single, inexpensive fuse.
First off, UNPLUG THE MICROWAVE.
The fuse is located under the plastic grill at the top of the microwave. It's held on by two screws. Once you've removed the screws and taken off the plastic grill, you go to the right side of the microwave and remove another screw that holds a small metal grill in place. Removing the small metal grill is probably the toughest part of this repair. You kind of have to rock it back and forth a bit to get it to release. Once that's off, you can get to the fuse. I removed the burnt out one with a pair of needle nose pliers. I also put a small piece of cardboard under the fuse when I did this so I didn't accidentally drop it into the innards of the microwave. I did the same thing when I replaced the new fuse. I then plugged the appliance back in and made sure it worked. Once that was confirmed, I replaced both grills.

Microwave not heating
Rmovd top vent screen. Removed control panel. Removed fuse cover panel. Replaced fuse. Removed housing of door switches. Removd wiring from door switches and and removed door switches from housing. Replaced with new switches and re-connectd wiring. Re-attached panels.
I diagnosed the problem incorrectly: based on a previous repair.
The old fuse is perfectly good. The new ones arrived within a day.

appliance stopped working -- no readout on screen
1. turned off electricity -- unplugged the unit 2. removed 3 screws on top of top vent, removed vent screen then I located the little white cylindrical fuse and popped it out with a table knife. Then I popped in the new fuse. Replaced the vent screen and screws -- plugged in the appliance and it is working again.

Suddenly had no heat. All else worked fine. A deep odd hum sound.
This did not fix my problem. I've ordered a new microwave.

Touch pad failed to respond to any programming effort
Went to onlin source, found a couple youtube videos then went to the GE site which had a not-too-easy that find trouble shooting guide. It was extremely helpful as it described a fuse as a fix 80% of the time for touch paid failure. I really didn't believe it would b a fuse, but it was the cheapest fix, $8. I got the fuse and was surprised to fine there are two of them on this model. I took a guess and replaced the top one ( neither fuse was black or burned to indicate a failure but the top one was a bit mor greyish). put it all back together and it works fine.

Blown fuse in microwave
One small Phillips screwdriver and one fuse puller (I used cord). Unplug unit. Remove the two screws on the vent face plate. Remove the one screw on the panel assembly. Gently let hang. Pull the fuse located on the upper left wall. Replace fuse. Reassemble.

Microwave does not have power at all, though outlet has power
unplugged power cable / unhooked front vent / unscrew the monitor panel / slide up to dislodge / take the fuse out and put in the new one in / fuse is located right in front of monitor panel once its open might be covered by wirings / you can unpin the cables from the panel to make it easier for you just make sure to put it back properly or you can have somebody hold the panel for you. Installing the fuse is easy waiting for the parts is crazy......

The microwave just died and has no light or display. Power is good at the outlet. I suspect the fuse but not sure. Do you have any replacement instructions for fuse replacement?

My microwave comes on but does not heat.

How do I and where is the fuse located

How do I access the fuse? I can't figure out how to remove the front panel or the control panel to check to see if the fuse is blown. I need to check this part because the microwave won't turn on and the control panel is unresponsive.

Hi William,
Thank you for your question. NOTE: If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, please get an electrician to do this repair. Before you begin any repair, please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to unthread the screws securing the grill. With the screws removed, open the microwave oven door then the slide the grill to the left and lift up to remove it. Next remove the control panel mounting screw and then lift the control panel up to detach. Then remove the screw holding the inner access panel and then release the panel from the retaining clips. To avoid injury, you will need to release the potentially dangerous charge from the capacitor by placing a screwdriver with an insulated handle across the terminals. Be careful not to touch the metal portion of the tool. Use pliers to detach the old fuse from the noise filter board. Install the new fuse by snapping it into the bracket. Replace the inner access panel and secure it with the screws. Now insert the control panel tabs into the slots in the frame and push the panel down. Secure it with the mounting screw. Insert the tabs of the grill into the frame and slide it to the right. Shut the oven door and then secure the grill with the screws. Plug the power cord back in and the microwave should now work. Hi - our GE Advantium microwave (from 2012) suddenly showed a "Key panel SHORTED. Service may be needed" message on the screen and stopped working. Will this fuse repair that short, or is a whole new panel necessary? And is replacing the panel feasible as a DIY project, for a relatively handy person but with limited appliance repair experience? Microwaves can be tricky since they can hold a dangerous charge even if left unplugged for a period of time. It will need to be discharged to safely perform the repair. Microwave stopped heating, want to change fuse first but I need to know how to do this. Second turntable keeps turning replaced one door switch but found that there are 3 switches which one or do I have to replace all 3 thanks for the help

The No Heat can be caused by a faulty door switch as well. Only way to know what switch is the issue is testing all three with a multimeter to check the continuity. This GE Convection Microwave stopped working abruptly and the panel went dark.
Replaced the ceramic fuse and was able to set the clock.
However, as soon as I tested the unit with a cup of water, the MW went dead and the panel went dark.
The ceramic fuse still tests good for continuity.
