Right part and quickly
After diagnosing the problem with my washing machine, and having a few trip-ups along the way, I searched for a Canadian distributor of a replacement part--a capacitor in this case. I called several local places, but even with shipping PartSelect was a more frugal option. I ordered on Thu at 12AM, and received it Friday after work. The part arrived boxed and wrapped in plastic, and was the proper part for the job. Washing machine was fixed that evening.

MAYTAG WASHER REPAIR
Good quality part, fairly easy to replace - fixed the problem of agitator only turning in one direction, resulting in bed sheets wrapped tightly around the agitator.

What would cause this capacitor to go bad?
Hello Amos,
Thanks for your question. Capacitors can go bad due to high temperatures or power surges most commonly.
I hope this helps.

Washer will not spin, I replaced the shift actuator still won't spin. Could it be the capacitor?
For model number WTW4800XQ1
Hello Larry, Thank you for the question. If the appliance will not spin or make noise like it is trying to spin, you may have a defective Lid Latch Assembly. The point of the lid switch is for the tub to stop spinning when the washer lid is opened. It is a safety precaution just in case someone decides to stick their hand inside the washer while the tub is spinning. We hope this helps!

The Whirlpool WTW4800XQ2 has decreased the number of agitations in its wash cycle from its 3 to 5 balancing agitations before it clicks then 3 to 18 agitations, (varys), before it stops agitating, and soaks until it clicks, drains, and spins. This is a decline from over 1,000 (plus) normal agitations. The machine drains, rinses and spins normally. Past 3 abnormal agitation performance runs, it ran perfectly once with over 1,000 agitations. I turned the machine over, examined it, and tightened all accessible connectors, but the machine still skips agitations. Could the problem be a failing capacitor (CAPACITOR W10804665)?
For model number WTW4800XQ2
Hello John, thank you for contacting us. The probable suspects of the problem are the shift actuator, part number PS11747977, and the capacitor, part number PS11703495. We would recommend testing both parts with a multimeter to pinpoint the faulty one. If this does not help, the issue is probably related to the control board, part number PS4704633. Customer service is always available to help you place an order if you are having trouble doing so. Good luck with your repair.
