Trying to diagnose dirty dishes. What does the protector do and what does the little check valve on it do? Following what we think the pathway is for recirculated water, it appears relatively large bits of food can bypass the accumulator and constantly clog the spray arm holes; literally every single wash 3-6 holes are plugged. What exactly is the water pathway?

Hi Rich,
Thank you for your questions. Dishwashers with a protectors have a pan below them to catch small leaks of up to 19 ounces. The leaks will evaporate once they hit the pan. If the leaks are larger than 19 ounces, then the pan will tilt forward so the water drained out the front of the dishwasher. If there is any debris or a tear in the accumulator filter, it can cause extra buildup and, therefore, causing dirty dishes. If there is any damage to the accumulator filter, you will need to replace it. If the spray arm holes are clogged you will need to remove it and clean them out. For specifics on the exact water pathway for your appliance, you will need to consult your owner's manual. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
