GE washer no spinning during spin cycle
Used the spatula to release the front panel (push flat spatula under top about 2 inches from either side to release the two sprng clips holding the front panel on) to expose the tub and motor assembly. Inspected the belt and it seemed worn and a lot of rubber particles were in base of machine. Ordered the belt from partselect - received it two days later. Loosened 4 motor mount nuts. Removed old belt and replaced. Tightened belt and tightened nuts on motor. Only tricky part is you will need extensions for socket drive because belt is in the way for two of the motor mount nuts. I used a 1/4" small socket wrench, with an extension. No expertise needed on this one.

Motor making clicking sound in low speed. Bearings bad.
First I unplugged the washer from the wall and then I removed the front panel with a putty knife. I slid the putty knife in between the front panel and top of the washer to disengage the two clips (see parts diagram on Partselect.com). Then I removed the four nuts holding the motor. I then removed the motor and old belt. I installed the new motor and new belt and tightened the four nuts ensuring proper belt tension. The new motor included a new wiring harness and capacitor. The wiring harness installation instructions were easy to follow. Besure to read the all the instructions first before beginning to cut the old harness. Once the wiring harness was installed, the machined worked just like new. I did not need the Retaining Clip for Clutch since the new motor and clutch kit come as one assembly and there is no longer an actual clutch. The two-speed motor just has a pulley for the belt.

washer was not agitating or spinning
My washer was making noise but not agitating or spinning on any of the cycles that I turned the dial to. Didn't know if it was the transmission or something simple. I did some research and discovered it may be the belt, even though the belt looked new, I changed it anyway by just removing the front of the washer and cutting the belt off and putting the new belt on by just turning the pulleys until it fed on. No need to tip it over to do the repair...and it WORKED!! Then I did the happy dance around the house...see woman can repair 2!

Agitator will not spin
Agitator would not spin and it was going to cost me I've a hundred soars for someone to come and fix it. I looked on this sight and found out what I thought was the problem and ordered four parts to fix it. I was amazed because they came in two days later. I started withe coupling which was the cheapest part and instaled it and it fixed it to return the other parts I called the 800 number and they emailed me a return authorization and I sent it back so it cost me 15 dollars and five minutes to fix it.

Loud banging noise
Removed the front cover of the washer by sliding a screw driver to release the clips. Loosened the 4 nuts that held the drivebelt motor pushed the motor back to release the drive belt. Replaced the drive belt, pulled motor until drive belt was snug and tighted the 4 bolts. At the same time, I replaced the 4 tub dampening straps located at the top of the tub and now the unit is just like new.

The pully attached to the bottom of the Clutch (all one piece) broke apart.
I loosened the 4 screws that hold the motor and clutch in place. Removed the motor and clutch and turned upside down. Removed the retaining clip. Pulled the old clutch off (does not come off very easy). Stuck the new clutch on and replaced the retaining clip. Slapped it back into the machine.

No Spin Or Agitate
Finding the disassembly instructions in the control panel was very useful. After disassembly and inspection obviously the transmission had lost oil and deteriorate the belt and actually threw it off. Finding your web site was very helpful. The exploded views parts catalog were great! We had it rush shipped. It was great to speak with a representative on a sunday was excellent. The rep was knowledgeable and we concurred on which part were needed. Tracking number was correct via e-mail but only rec'd tracking number for one of the two packages which was stressful at the fedex office at pick-up. All items were rec'd on time assembly was straight forward. The basin retainer nut came loose after 5 loads and made a terrible noise. I applied blue loctite to nut and reinstalled. Seems to be working correctly. Bought an extended warranty which added 4 yrs. Washer failed 2 months after warr. Expired. Figures!! Great experience with partselect thank you.

Excessive agitator side movement
Bought all of the parts to remedy this. It ended up being the top transmission seal/bearing which is not a replaceable part. I could see the shaft moving side to side. But the parts diagrams are not detailed enough to show that when assembled.

She led a good life.

My new side loader is SO MUCH BETTER AND INSANELY EFFICIENT. I highly recommend making the change if you need a transmission..

My washer doesn't agitate or spin but sounds like it does. Door latch is fine and i just replaced the drive belt but it still won't work. I'm thinking of replacing the agitator block next. Any ideas?
For model number WCSR2090G3WW

Hi Susan, Thank you for your inquiry. I would suggest taking a look at that part and seeing if it is stripped or broken in any way. If it looks fine though, you may have to look into your transmission and motor. It could be that those parts are trying to work but they are not. Also check your drain pump and motor as well. That can also cause a machine not to agitate if the pump cannot drain. First take a look through the pump filter and see if there are any blockages. Good luck with your repair.

My washer drains/spins and dispenses fabric softener when its empty or has a few items in it. It will drain, but not spin a half or full load. My clothes are soaked. I have already checked the lid connection (by resetting) and took the white hose from the pump and found no obstruction. (not sure if its normal, but there wasn't a filter in the pump either) the little fan type thingy in the pump, wasn't easy to move, but moved). Seems this all happened after a load of towels. The drum seems to move around to easily, but not sure if that's normal either. Help!! i have a kid who plays hockey :)

Hi Mary, thank you for your question. Yes, if your appliance will no longer spin when you have medium to heavier loads, I would suggest checking your belt first. That part does wear down over time and it might have just worn down with the heavier load you were doing. Also you are generally not supposed to force that impeller in your drain pump to move because that can burn out the motor. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Front panel dose not remove from the cabinet rear access only how do i access belt to replace
PartSelect logo
Hello Jeff, Thank you for your inquiry. I was able to find the following instructions for changing the belt with rear access only for a GE washer. You can remove the back cover by taking out the screws. Remove the coupling between the motor and the pump, removed the belt, you may want to clean the grease off of the pulley. Put the new belt on the smaller pulley, put the new belt on the larger pulley as much as I could, and then turned the larger pulley until the belt jumped on the pulley. I put the coupling back on between the motor and the pump, putting on the lower clamp first and then the upper clamp. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your response. The machine agiates and spins beautifully while empty. Replaced belt (old one was in perfect condition), took off agitator coupling and it seems perfect too. The spine grooves were covered in globs of,i'm assuming fabric softener. Cleaned that and it still wont spin with clothes in it. What next?

Hello Mary, Thank you for contacting us. The next part to check would be the Capacitor, PartSelect Number PS3406186. This part increases the voltage to the drive motor to help get up to speed. If the capacitor is good, you may have a defective motor, PartSelect Number PS756764. There will be to wire leads connected to the motor. Disconnect the motor's two wire leads from the wiring harness. Set your multimeter to the R x 1 setting. Touch each of the meter's probes to one terminal each. Your motor should show little resistance (a reading of zero, or close to zero). Now check the ground connection. Place one probe on the bare metal housing of the motor. Place the other probe on each terminal, one at a time. You should not receive any reading on your meter from this test. If your washer's motor fails either of these tests, you will have to replace it. Hope this helps, good luck with this repair!

Upon starting the agitation cycle (both wash & rinse), there is a series of loud squeaking / groaning noises, (somewhat like damp rubber soled shoes on a linoleum floor) that seem to coincide with each movement of the agitator. The noises subside after a couple of minutes and go away until the next cycle that "agitates". It then repeats. The fill, drain, & spin cycles have no issues or unusual sounds. Any suggestions?
For model number WHDSR109J5WW

Hello Denny, thank you for inquiring. This may be caused by a faulty Tub Dampening Strap, part number PS271100 for your model. You may also want to consider this V-Style Drive Belt part number PS270803 as the cause. I hope this helps and good luck with your repair!

Washer fills and agitates and drains but doesn't spin. Lid shut off switch seems ok -- stops machine in agitate. Drive belt seems ok, not too worn or lose and works fine in agitate mode. Motor just doesn't activate belt in spin mode.
For model number GE whdsr209g9ww

Hi Wes, Thank you for your inquiry. You will probably want to check your drain pump and motor next. If that part is not working then you will not go into your drain/spin cycle. You can just give this part a visual inspection and then test it with a multi-meter to see if the electrical is fine as well. If this part is alright, you might be looking into replacing your transmission. Good luck with your repair.

Hotpoint top loading washer agitates and spins intermittently.Everything else seems to be working. This situation does not allow clothes to expel water making them heavy and difficult to dry. Does this sound like a worn out belt or some other problem? Btw we did detect a burning rubber smell before we observed these problems.

My washer isnt spinning, but i can hear the motor running. Does that sound like a belt problem? The belt isnt broken, but i can barely get it to move. I havent used the machine in a couple of years, could it just need wd40?

Hello Donna, thank you for your question. There are a few parts you will want to check, the V-Style Drive Belt Part Number: WH1X2026, and the pulley that the belt rides on, which is attached to the motor. The motor might be running but it might be seizing up and turning easily. If the motor pulley is hard to turn the motor will have to be replaced. It would also be a good idea to check the Clutch and Retaining Clip Part Number: WH5X256 and the Transmission and Brake Assembly Part Number: WH38X10002 for any wear and tear. I hope this helps!

Washer does not spin on any setting. It fills, agitates, and drains. No spin. Checking it we tilted it so we could see underneath and we put it through its paces (water d/ced) and the motor kicks in and belt turns to agitate, but when it comes to spin cycles (any spin cycle) motor does not turn on and belt does not move. Note again -- belt turns when agitating. Motor does not turn on (pump does) and belt does not turn at spin. Need some help on this.
For model number S3700E4WW

Hello Janice, Thank you for the question. I suggest replacing the Lid Switch Assembly, PartSelect Number PS5135698. The point of the lid switch is for the tub to stop spinning when the washer lid is opened. It is a safety precaution just in case someone decides to stick their hand inside the washer while the tub is spinning. If defective it will not allow the spin cycle to start thinking the lid is open. Thank you for your inquiry, good luck with this repair!
