Microwave is on, but no heat or turning table. If it's a diode, how do i handle safely the capacitor?
For model number JVM1540LM1CS
Hi Mike,
Thank you for your inquiry. Before you begin any repair please unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet. Since high voltage capacitors in microwaves may contain a charge even after the microwave is unplugged it is best that if you are not familiar with microwave repairs to have a repairman do it for you. If you would like to do this yourself, first use a Philips head screw driver to unthread the 2 mounting screws securing the grill. With the screws unthreaded, open the door to the microwave then slide the grill to the left and lift it up to remove. Next remove the control panel mounting screw. Lift the control panel up to detach. Then remove the screws securing the inner access panel. Release the panel from the retaining clips. To avoid injury, you should release the stored charged in the capacitor. You can do this by using needle nose pliers with an insulated handle to touch both terminals at the same time. Be careful not to touch it with the metal portion of the pliers. Remove the screws securing the diode to the frame. Use the pliers to pull the old diode free from the capacitor. Install the new diode by connecting it to the terminal on the capacitor. Now thread the screw to secure the opposite end to the frame. Reposition the inner access panel. Replace the screw to secure. Now insert the control panel tabs into the slots in the frame and push the panel down. Replace the mounting screw to secure. Insert the tabs on the grill into the slots on the frame and slide the grill to the right. Rethread the mounting screws. With the repair completed plug your microwave back in and it should now work for you. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!
