Dryer would stay on after opening the Door. The switch that turns off the dryer when you open the door was not broken.
You open up the lint filter access door and remove the two small screws that hold it to the top of the dryer. Once they are removed, you insert a flat blade screwdriver under front-top of the unit and the top will pop off. Exerting a little pressure towards you will help lift to top off the mounts. There are no other screws to remove.
The new switch comes attached to a clip. You just pull off the old clip and replace it with the new one and discard the old switch.

Would not start
We were able to look at the diagram of the dryer to figure out how to access the part and then replace it. Fantastic! Your site is wonderful. The suggestion for the repair for not starting was right on the mark. The parts came very quickly, as well.

Dryer on/off door switch broke and needed replaced.
Took the dryer top off and removed the bad part. Looked it up online and found a replacement by looking for whirlpool parts. They didn't have one at the local parts stores so I ordered the part online and had it mailed within three days. I replaced it quite easily. It worked and I put everything back together and my wife took over the tricky part of drying the laundry! The repair was quite easy for a non mechanical person like me.

Dryer continued to run non-stop
Found that when the dryer continued to run after the door was opened that the door switch had gone bad. I unpluged the Dryer, opened the top of the dryer to get access to the switch by lifting top up with fingers and a gentle prying of a flat screwdriver to release spring clips holding it down. I then unplugged the wires from the switch and removed the 2 screws that held the switch in. Then reverse this process when you get your new switch from part select (which we received in 2 days) and the total time to fix it took aprox. 10-15 min. total to do. Easy fix for ANY handy person at home!

broken door switch meant dryer was shutting off thinking door was open when it wasn't
pop off the lid, replace the switch. (in meantime, while waiting for replacement switch to arrive, shorted switch wires together to fool dryer into thinking door was closed)

Dryer would not turn on
I found the door switch in the upper right of the door opening was broken. This will not allow the dryer to turn on. The switch is held in by two phillips screws.I removed the screws holding it in place. Next open the door where the lint filter is and remove the two screws. Now at the front corners of the dryer on each side you will need to insert at tool to pop the clips.I used a door panel trim tool. Once you pop the clips lift up the top of the dryer. Next unplug the switch and remove it. Install the new switch through the hole install the switch screws drop the top back down and clip it, reinstall the screws at the lint filter. If this was your problem the dryer should turn on. This is a 15 min job!!!

My door switch has stopped working. I have looked up a new one using the model #. I was directed to a replacement part but it is showing three wires coming from the switch. My old switch only has two wires. I watched and your repair man did not explain this difference. I was looking very hard to see if he installed a 3 wire switch and i think he did. You or he could have explained this better.I am going to order my part now and if it's not i will return it but the uncertainty will remain until i install and test!

Hello Peter, Thank you for the question. The manufacture has discontinued the old 2 wire switch and replaced it with this 3 wire switch. This switch is used on models that have a tub light and will require the third wire for the light. This switch is interchangeable with your switch and will still work. You just need to plug it in as you normally would have. Thank you for your inquiry, good luck with this repair!

Your video to change door switch shows the controls to the dryer on the top/back of dryer with lint screen on the top panel. My model has the controls on the front of dryer, with lint screen (egg shape) inside the dryer. Can you send me the correct process to replace the door switch for this model please? My dryer does not stop when i open the door (keeps tumbling) so i believe i have correctly diagnosed this from various sites that it is the door switch.

Hi Gail, Thank you for your question. Here is some information that a customer has left regarding how she installed the switch, "Hi, I am a working mom, and my dryer quit just after it had been behaving strangely. At first, it kept spinning after the door was opened. It eventually stopped working, and I assumed that the door switch must be the culprit. I purchased the part from the catalogue, and watched the installation video. Repair: After unplugging the dryer and removing the lint screen, I used a philips head screwdriver to loosen and remove the two screws located at the lint trap. I then inserted a flat screwdriver into the area between the top of the dryer casing and the face. Per the video, at approx. 2 inches in from the left and right side. I did this while gently applying pressure from the back of the dryer top to the front. This loosens the clips allowing the top to be lifted back and out of the way. I then opened the dryer door and commenced loosening and removing the two screws that hold the dryer switch in place. I used my screwdriver to gently separate the wiring harness connection, as it also has a clip to keep the connection tight. With these items free, I simply popped the little black thingy back through the hole (The black thingy just keeps the slack in the wiring from sagging, I think). With the old part removed, I then installed the new part accordingly. I reversed my way back out of the process respectively. I plugged her back in, and turned her on. Back in business." I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

My dryer has the lint filter inside the dryer - how do i change it?
For model number 110.847224
PartSelect logo
Hello Debbie, thank you for your question. You would reach inside the unit and take the cover off the filter, then pull the filter out of the dryer. This should be done every load you do so as to prevent a fire, or cause drying time issues. I hope this helps!
