Washer would not start, when started wouldn't stay running.
I found the problem when I leaned on the lid while it started and that pressure kept it running. By placing detergent bottles on the right side of the lid I was able to walk away. I then bought the lid switch and lid strike after seeing it is a common problem. I watched the video and followed it almost step by step. First I unplugged the washer but didn't unhook the hose (only because I didn't have to move the washer) then I unscrewed the two screws holding the control panel, flipped it over, unplugged the lid switch connector, removed the clips holding the washer body on and tilted the body far enough forward to work on it. I replaced the switch as was done in the video and put the washer back together opposite the way I took it apart.
Pretty much like shown in the video tutorial however I didn't disconnect the water hoses. I unplugged the machine and pulled it forward 6 inches. Took it apart like in the video but because of space restrictions I took the cabinet into another room to replace the switch and then re-assembled. The hardest part was getting the cabinet to re-seat as before. It took several attempts but it's all done and the machine is working like a champ. I listed a magnet because I use them to keep the nuts and screws from getting lost

Washer wouldn't drain due to broken lid switch.
I followed the linked instruction video, un-hooking the power plug and water supplies, unhooking the control panel and front of the washer (tilting it forward) then removed the original lid switch. I then discovered that the lid switch plug had been revised since our washer was built and wouldn't fit the washer coupling. I then improvised by removing the new plug and splicing on the original plug to the new lid switch wiring (making sure to have the wiring match up). The washer now works perfectly.

Washer would turn on, but washer would stop on rinse and spin cycle.
Unplug the power. Unscrewed 2 screws on the backside of the console to removed the cabinet. Removed the 2 clips that releases the back panel from the cabinet. Disconnect the harness. Instead of removing the cabinet i just moved the washer drum around. Was plenty of room to work with. Next I removed the 2 screws that secured the lid switch to the cabinet. Moved the drum to use a wrench to unscrew the screw that holds the ground wire in place. Moved the drum to the back and used my fingers to find the clips holding the wire to the cabinet. Re-installed the new lid switch.

Safety agitation switch quit
My son-in-law watched the video on the website and fixed it just fine.
First I unplugged the washer. siphoned out old water. I then took the decorative plates off from the top sides, with a flat head screwdriver. Removed the (2) Phillips head screws from the head, and tilted the head back. After removing the two clips from the top of the washer (near the head) with a flat head screw driver. I then pulled the body of the washer out. Tilting it back and laying it on the floor I removed the clips (Flat head) and the ground wire 5/16 socket. I then reversed, following the process step for step, putting the new switch in and putting the washer back together. Plugged it in, ran a empty small load (no clothes) with Clorox to clean tub.

How will I know if I have a bad lid switch?
Hello Thomas, great question! The easiest thing to listen for is a clicking sound. If you do not hear the clicking sound next step is to use a multi-meter tool to check for a closed continuity when shut. I hope this helps.

So my washing machine is filling up with water and agitating but not draining. I did previously replace the washer pump, but I have no idea what the problem is now. Could it be as simple as the lid switch?
Hi Sam, if your washer does not drain you should check the lid switch assembly for fault first, as it is the most common problem in this case. To test it use an Ohm meter and check for continuity. If this is not the problem you will have to then test the motor, and the motor coupling. This can be tested with a multi-meter tool, and is the second most common reason for a washer to have no drain symptoms. Good luck with the repair.

The power is on in my washer, and there is nothing wrong in the fuse panel but yet my washer will still not spin. What should I check first, do you think it is the lid switch? I’m so lost, please help!

Replaced the lid switch and still nothing, won't do anything , when the old switch was in the machine was filling with water and would stop in middle of washing, but now it doesn't do anything

Machine fills... does not advance to agitate... while attempting to manually advance cycle machine never engages in the agitation cycle.. can be manually moved forward to start drain spin cycle. no dial so plastic post for handle being used to move cycle forward. machine does drain and spin well. dial does click while being moved forward.
** the machine is 18/19 years old... if not too expensive willing to repair.. thank you again!!! yes i bought a new dial... that was n easy diagnosis.. :-)

Hi, thanks for reviewing my question. I have an old Whirlpool love the old machines they are like tanks and keep on running much longer than the new machines. The washer has four different wash cycles to choose from: Normal, permanent press, delicates and hand washables. The washer operates on the normal and permanent press cycles. However, it wont fill or advance on the delicates or hand washable cycles. It makes a noise as if it is getting power but will not start. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers!
