Removed the shelves from the freezer and the brackets holding it along with the covers for the light and plate for the ice maker (we don't have one). Pulled the ground wire from the tab off the port for the ice maker. Removed back plate exposing the fan motor and then the 4 hex screws holding on part #23 of the diagram which the fan mot or is mounted to. Flipped it over, unscrewed the 2 hex screws from the fan motor mounting and removed it. Removed and replaced 3 wire connectors on new fan motor. Installed new fan motor and new grommets but used the old screws because the provided screws were larger. Pushed the new fan on to the motor shaft. Reassembled. Half hour most.

Repalce evaporator fan

The evaporator fan is located in the freezer behind the back wall. If you have the ice maker remove it first then remove the screws on the top of the panel. You will notice the side brackets for the top shelf will make it hard to remve the panal but by slitly binding the center the panal came right out. The fan is held in a bracke tha co mes right out. The wire unplu right from the fan so do not try to unplg the seal plug to the left side. Swap the fan with the new one useing the new rubber monts re-connect the wires and reasymble. Put the bottom of the back panal in first then work each side in past the shelf bracket binding the center slightly.

Evaporator motor squeal.

After finding an almost obsolete part( thanks PartSelect!) the installation was rather easy. Remove the back panel of the freezer and vent with a screwdriver and a nut driver. Disconnect the three wires, green, white and red.Remove motor from mounting and replace with new motor. I had to make a slight adjustment to the ground wire on the new motor that required adjusting the position of the contact-no big deal. The motor fit perfectly. Popped fan on and assembled. 20 minutes max.

Intermitant squealing noise from freezer area.

I basically followed the step-by-step instructions at the parts order website. I removed the shelves and rear panels to access the fan. I noted the color coding on the wires and terminals, removed the two retainer screws, removed the old fan from the mounting bracket, installed the new fan using the rubber anti-vibration mounts, pressed -on the fan to the center drive shaft and re-installed the assembly to the back wall. I simply replaced the rear panels and shelves and plugged in the fridge. The only issue I had was the distance needed to press on the fan blade to preclude fan noise, which I found by trial and error, before re-installing the panels.

Remount the housing, plug in the har ness replace the rear cover, install the shelf supports and plug in the refrigerator. Loud noise from freezer when running
  • Joseph from Cottsge Grove, WI
  • Easy

Pulled the electric plug! Removed the freezer shelf and the rear shelf supports by pulling straight up. Swung rear panel out of the way after taking out the two phillips head screws at the top. Removed the plastic deflector grill to which the motor is attached with a nut driver. Removed motor from grill and disconnected wire prongs (pul l off). Attach new motor. Only issue - the ground prong has been moved to the front of the motor so the wire just reaches and has to be gently bent back so the fan blade clears it. Reattach deflector grill. Push on fan blade, but not too far to hit wire. Reassemble the rest in reverse order.

Evap Fan Motor went bad
  • Aaron from Metz, WV
  • A Bit Difficult
  • 30 - 60 mins
  • Pliers, Screw drivers, Socket set
This was an easy part to find thanks to its universality. The only difficulty was the electric snap-on connection - had to use the old one and tie the wires to the new motor - that was easy. Hardest part was the new screws to mount to bracket weren't long enough. Had to find one in my screw jar to match threads that was long enough. W orks Great!!!
