Dryer keeps running after the door is opened
The videos on replacing the switch mentioned using a putty knife to pop the top of the dryer open. My dryer is around 10 years old, so a putty knife wasn't strong enough to pop the dryer top off of the clips. Instead, I had to gently stick a flat head screwdriver and twist just to the side of each clip. Other than that, the video instructions were spot-on on for replacing the switch: UNPLUG THE DRYER FIRST > remove the lint collector > remove the two screws from the top of the lint collector's slot with a Phillips screwdriver > pop the top of the dryer up gently with a flat head screwdriver (or a putty knife, if that works for you) > remove the two screws holding the switch onto the front of the dryer (it would be good to notate which direction the switch is pointing) > use a flat head screwdriver to pry the faulty switch's clip off of the dryer's wiring harness clip. Then reverse the procedure with the new switch: plug the new switch into the dryer's wiring harness > screw the new switch into the slot on the front of the dryer, making sure that it's oriented in the correct direction with the switch's arm pointing away from the dryer > lower the top of the dryer back down and press it onto the clips > screw the screws back into the lint collection slot > replace the lint collector > plug the dryer back in > test the dryer.

At age 74 I could have used stronger hands than I have
Putty knife was not enough for me I had to use a flat head screw driver to open the dryer. I had difficulty getting the old switch off had to use a flat head screw driver and needle nose pliers to get it off. New switch went on and the closing of the dryer was a breeze.

Dryer would not stop when door was opened and light would n't work even after replacing bulb
I love this site! They make it so easy even a woman can do it. Love the diagrams, the trouble shooting helps and reviews/instructions! I followed the printed instructions. Unplugged the cord, removed the lint trap and removed the two screws. Put the lint trap back in and pried the top off. One corner was a little harder than the other but got it! Just lifted the lid just enough to reach the switch right inside. Tried unplugging the old switch, but it didn't come right out. Hubby had to help by using a screwdriver to "unlock" the plug. Then unscrewed the screws on the front of the dryer, inside the door holding the switch. But hold on to it because we dropped the old switch right down into the bottom of the dryer...where it will forever reside since we couldn't find it or get it!! Plugged the new switch in, screwed the screws in to hold the switch in place. Took a little effort to get the screws lined up with the holes on the switch but we got it! Replaced the top, removed the lint trap, screwed the two screws back in, plugged it in and wa-lah! The light came on and the drum stopped when I opened the door! So simple!

The dryer door switch was broken. The dryer worked but would not stop when the door was open and the light would not come on
Very simple. First, unplug the dryer. Unscrew the 2 screws that hold the lint screen in place and remove the lint screen. Now comes the only complicated part. The video recommends using a putty knife to get the top of the dryer to open. I recommend plastic wedges (you can buy one for less than $1 at a local hardware store; I used 2) because then you will not damage the aluminum, which is very easy to do. Basically you put the wedges (I used two) into the opening and hit then very gently with a hammer and they force the top of the dryer to open. From there you remove the 2 screws that hold the switch in place, unplug the switch (this may take a little bit of effort), plug the new one in, put the screws back in place, put the top back on, screw the lint screen screws back in, put the lint screen back, plug the dryer in and you're good to go. This took all of 10 minutes

Dryer won't start due to broken door switch
UNPLUG the dryer first. Remove lint filter. Unscrew dryer top from lint filter compartment. Pry top of dryer loose under the front edge, using a flathead screwdriver. Prop open so you can see into dryer where the drum sits. Open dryer door, and on right side, unscrew the door switch. Pull the old switch loose from the three wires leading into the plastic connector. Connect the new switch and reattach everything in the opposite order you took it apart.

Switch was hanging limp
This problem occurred Thursday afternoon; after I took out a load of dry clothes, it wouldn't restart. I realized that the switch was busted, it used to click but it was just hanging. Watched the video and ordered it right away. It arrived Saturday morning via Fedex and I installed it in about 5 minutes. It probably took longer to watch the video. 23 bucks and the dryer's running perfectly. I've replaced several parts this way on my appliances, always feels good to do it yourself. Good as new.
