Craftsman Trimmer Spring
PartSelect Number PS10167401
Manufacturer Part Number 243603-00
This spring, often referred to as a recoil spring or spool spring, is sourced from the original manufacturer for use in trimmers. It is located within the spool housing where it is responsible for holding the spool in place. The coils wrap around the trimmer line spool and allow the spool to rotate and release new string. It is normal for the spring to wear down, become corroded, or fall off if it is not properly secured. A faulty compression spring will lower the cutting ability of the trimmer and make it difficult or impossible to feed a new line. To access the faulty spring, you may need to disassembly the spool housing. Remove the spring cap and set it aside. If the cap is damaged or loose, it is recommended to replace it at the same time to prevent the spring from dislodging. Carefully unwind the coil from the spool and pull it out of the spool housing assembly. Position the new spring on the spool and tension it by tightly winding the coils to the desired tension level. Reattach the cap and reassemble the spool housing assembly.
