Ice maker not making ice, ice tray overfills and cannot dump, ice sticks together and will not dispense
This repair is pretty straight forward. Just remove the 3 screws that hold the ice maker and bin assembly in, unplug the wire harness connector, then remove it from the refrigerator door. Once removed you simply need to remove 3 more screws that hold the ice maker to the auger/bin frame, remove the temp sensor, and a couple pieces of tape. Re-assemble the new ice maker in reverse order and you are all set. I think part of the issue I was having was due to mineral buildup in the tray as well so it had a hard time cracking and removing the ice. Not sure why it was overfilling, maybe the sensor was broken or had buildup on it as well. This solved all the problems I was seeing and now it makes great ice that doesn't stick together and form a bridge in the bin.

The old ice maker had cracked and broken, and would no longer make ice.
Six screws to remove the old one (I looked up the process on Youtube) and six screws had it back in tip top shape.
Three wire connections, two were plug in and one was a ground wire.
BTW: It was a 3 wire, not a 6 wire. I had ordered that by mistake and PartSelect made the return and replacement very easy.

Have had some issues for a few month's, but would always start working once i pushed the test button, and would be okay for a month or 2, but now does nothing when i push test button or power on and off. Is this an ice maker issue itself, or possibly something else i can check before i order a replacement part?
For model number 795.72032.111
Hi Neil,
Thank you for your question. If pressing the test button no longer gets the ice maker working, then you will need to replace it. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

Thought ice maker was bad but i pushed test button on ice maker and it dumps ice and then fills with water. But doesn't seem to work on its own only when i push test button on ice maker. This is on a Kenmore elite 79572183315. Any suggestions?

Hi Bill,
Thank you for your question. If the ice maker is not working correctly, you may need to replace it, but before you do I would also check the water inlet valve and the electronic control board to see if these parts may be causing the issue. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day!

How do you know if 3 or 6 wire? Does the model number tell you?
For model number LFX2897857
Hi William,
Thank you for your question. You would just have to take a look at your ice maker wire. If it has 6 wires, then this would be the correct part. If it has only three wires, this would be the correct part: PS7788172. Good luck with your repair.

Our ice maker in our refridgerator (LG model LMX31985ST) has stopped working. The ice tray will turn over and it clicks repeatedly as if the ice is stuck and not dumping and then stay in the upside down position once the 20 or so clicks stop. Turning it off and back on allows the ice tray to turn rightside up but will not fill with water. Then after a period of time it tries to dump the empty ice tray again and gets stuck upside down until I turn it off and back on. Any idea what the issue might be and what parts I need to fix it?
For model number LMX31985ST
Hello Ben, thank you for asking! Prior to everything else, please confirm that the water supply is not interrupted and there are no kinks in the line as the ice maker makes clicking sounds when it is short on water. After confirming that, try resetting the ice maker by pressing the "test/fill" button until the ice maker starts to turn cycle. If this does not help, the ice maker requires repair. If your ice maker has six connector wires, the part you will need is the ice maker assembly, part number PS7788173. If it has three connector wires then the correct part is the ice maker assembly, part number PS7788172. We hope this helps, good luck with this repair.
