Diagnosed By Your Expert As Timer Motor Stalling
I unplugged the machine. Your expert provided clear instructions which I followed exactly. I removed the white plastic clip holding the washer knob in place. This was probably the hardest part since I had only about a quarter inch to see what I was doing and I was trying to hold a magnifying glass, flashlight, and paper clip hook at the same time while sitting on top of the washer. Then I had to search for the appropriate tool to remove the four screws holding the control panel in place. The screws were not flathead or phillips; they had a star-shaped head and it took me longer to locate the tool than it did to actually switch out the timer. I removed the four screws and tilted the control panel down. I studied how the timer was held in place and what went where and then I removed the old timer by just unscrewing one screw (this one was a phillips), clipping two wires that were slightly tangled and obviously only necessary to the old timer, and then pulling the old timer from its two built-in slots and its little "brain" of wires that allows it to communicate with the rest of the washing machine controls. (This item resembles a large rectanguler plug. ) And then I installed the new timer. I really appreciate your expert advising me to put the plastic clip on the control knob first and then push the knob with the clip on onto the panel. I was doing laundry in about an hour, no problem.
