Suddenly the igniters for the front 2 burners are activating, with just one spark. Repeats 5 to 10 seconds later.

Hello Phil, thank you for your question. This would be an issue with either the PartSelect Number: PS1481008 igniter Harness, or the spark module PartSelect Number: PS952865. You can test the ignition switches for continuity. If there is continuity in the off position then they would be faulty. If they are not faulty the spark module would have to be replaced. I hope this helps!

I spilled a little water near the control knobs and it must have gotten to the igniter harness lockout switch. It caused a short and started burning. I unplugged it quickly but the damage is done. If i replace the igniter harness could this happen again. It was a very small amount of water, aren’t these switches sealed?
    For model number JGP975SEK2SS
Hello Kevin, Thank you for the question. The switches are not sealed but there is a seal that goes under the knob and cooktop to prevent spills to get inside, PartSelect Number PS952314. I suggest checking to see if yours need to be replaced due to wear. Hope this helps!

The cooktop had a shorted out burner control.
Unpllug the cooktop and turn off the gas supply. Remove the grates and burners.(they just lift out). Using a torx screwdriver, remove all the torx screws below where the burners sit. There are three screws per burner, except the power burner which has only two screws. Genly lift the stainless steel cooktop, separating it from the rest of the enclosure. Hold the electrodes with one hand, while gently twisting and pulling the wire connector off. Now, remove the aluminum covered foam piece. You will now have acess to the wiring harness assembly. Disconnect the quick connectors and replace with the new assembly. Re-assemble in the reverse order and you're done. About 1.5 to 2 hours. Good Luck
