If this replaces 5300jk1005d then how come it has a sensor or thermister attached?

Hello Carlos, thank you for your question. From the picture of the part that we found online this doesn't include the sensor. The defrost sensor for that unit is PartSelect Number PS3529340. I hope this helps!

How can I force unit into defrost to check the defrost element and can I test the defrost sensor and element without tearing unit apart

Hello Ralph, thank you for getting in touch. According to our research, your model's fresh food section and freezer section defrost automatically. You cannot defrost the unit forcely. The continuity of the defrost heater and defrost sensor cannot be checked without removing them. We hope this information helps!
